We decided to do the medieval tour of Nuremberg. We started at the Imperial Castle and walked down through to the town square. Along the way we sampled Gingerbread (fun fact: Gingerbread does not contain ginger) which was delicious, we also sampled German sausage (does not contain German's) and another beer sampling (at 10am). Back to the ship for lunch, Gary off for a walk me a nap and blog ...

Bamberg is small city, about the same population as Rocky, the only difference is it was established in 1007. The Old City Hall is built in the middle of the river as the Bishop of the time would not allow it to be built on his land so the creative town folk said "well you don't own the river we will build it there". It turned out to be our lucky day. Rothenburg was having a renaissance festival and there were hundreds of people dressed in period costumes with crafts, plays, mock trials, etc. It was amazing to see. From there we left and spent our first night in Filderstadt. We hadn't seen the family since they came to the US to visit us so it was wonderful to see them...AND not get lost!!!

... The occupant of this palace was a prince, who also happened to be a Roman Catholic bishop! Being a priest wasn't really a humble life, I guess :) Someone asked, "If you're a prince but also a bishop, were you allowed to marry?" The answer: "No. The church took precedence."

Our tour guide told us that the people in this area don't like to be called Bavarian, but Franconian. Not ...
