... trick, as it was right behind me. I pointed, he looked and nodded. Turns out he just wanted to talk about the van, York, bronze age burial customs and the lack of a bike rack in the car park. His English was a little worse than my German, so the whole thing was done in a bilingual dumb-show. Great fun! Driving outside Verden I came across a most odd sight. In a layby was a parked motorhome, with "Girls" and red hearts painted over its sides. Now I thought the idea of a ...
Undeloh, Germany shanemhewittHello again!
In case you were worried, yes I am still alive! I guess I haven't written in a couple of months, but after all isn’t that what you would expect after this much time here? I don’t really feel like this is some 'adventure’ anymore…it’s just normal life. I haven’t been on any exotic trips or had anything crazy or hilarious happen to me, I’ve just been enjoying a beautiful spring in a ...
Our trip started out a little stressful as our plane had a 2 hour delay in Orlando and we had to catch the connection flight in Charlotte...so we only had 30 minutes to change planes! Thank you US Airways! It was really close that we would miss the plane (even though it was not our fault). We ran out of the 1st plane and trying to catch plane #2....as we were heading from terminal A to terminal C we heard "last boarding call for US Airways to Frankfurt ...
Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany rommy... everything seems to be constantly changing. It seems like we have a new intern, teacher, or support staff every week! You’ve gotta be quick on your feet to keep up with it all.
This Wednesday my day also started off a little roughly. As I was bicycling down the long hill towards my school, this car just pulled out of its driveway without even checking for bikers (I ride in the 'bike lane’ the whole way to ...
... comes up to visit. He is leaving for the states on Sunday and wanted to make one last trip up to Weimar. He had visited briefly years ago and remembered it as being a super cool city. Can’t say I blame him for that. Weimar is pretty awesome and we had beautiful sunny weather to walk around and see the sights. We have a Thueringen Brat on the Marktplatz and I give him my little tour of the city. It’s fun to catch up and have a few beers and talk ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... maybe my boring musings will help bring about the triptofan-induced sleep.
It has been an interesting past few days. Weimar was decidedly colder last week, and we got our first snow. It was only a little bit Monday and Tuesday but the flurries were falling all day and it was sticking from time to time. Not that it’s early, but I feel a little bit more connected to the weather living here. I think it is because I ride my bike ...
... a winter in this stint abroad!
Feeling a little bit sentimental for home, and a little sick, I thought I would do something constructive and warm. So I went to the store and bought a bunch of cooking stuff and decided to try my hand at baking. So Friday night I made a big batch of American cookies after spending about an hour in the store looking for various baking products with weird translations. Also, if you’ve ever tried to cook in another ...
... brother and some other relatives. The cemetery is mostly in bad shape, with mold on most of the gravestones and the plaster peeling so that the names weren't readable, but some were relatively new, including the half-brother, so somebody has been there in the last 20 or so years-but we don't know who. The city hall wasn't open (only on Wednesday) ask for more ...
