Everything in the store WAS cheaper by a significant margin e.g. reasonable wine under £1 (remember Aldi & Lidl have won a best Value For Wine award in the UK with M & S being worst!), salted nuts, 200g about 60p.

The closest biggish town is Achern in Germany with a population of around 25,000. It is a typical large town with a wide choice of shops and facilities.
