... smell changed and it got colder and there was a genuine tightening in the chest as you descended the steps. The ovens are open and the implements used to cram in and turn the bodies are on display nearby. The gas chamber is still almost completely intact, and the room where each prisoner would have stripped off before entering is now marked in lights with the names of 81,000 persons known certainly to have been murdered there thanks to the ...

I'm currently in the train from Salzburg to Vienna. It's a beautiful train ride through the Austrian countryside. Everything is kind of coming full circle. ...

I better backtrack a bit, before leaving Vienna we had dinner with Ilse, Dieter and Inge. I really don't know why we have been going to restaurants because Ilse's meal was the best we have eaten bar none, with Turkey breast pieces in a garlic sauce, mushrooms and a Rissoni. It was fabulous. But it was a tough night saying goodbye to them all after they looked after us so well and we became a lot closer. Lots of tears and emotion, we sure will miss them, lucky there is Skype. ...

... Tony had schnitzel. So we were all very traditional in our choices. We were too full for desert and coffee so we walked for another hour and then stopped for crisp apple strudel! We had been hanging out to taste this traditional desert for ages! It was so tasty! Home, to our hotel, shower and bed. Looking forward to our Sound of Music Tour tomorrow and the scattering of some of Mums ashes. It will be a day of mixed ...
