R: After our tasty watermelon for breakfast our rations were done and we needed food but unfortunately most of the Dutch shops are closed on a Sunday and I was informed that the closest supermarkets open were in Ujst (8km) and Sneek (10km). After a bbq we spent the evening sat next to the river and watched the sunset, perfect start to our hols and we stayed in Heeg for 3 ...

John's mother Bertha was the only one in her family to emigrate to the U.S. In 1910 after marrying Joe Kooistra.
Even though Gepke never visited the U.S. because of poor health, her English is perfect. She is 88 years old. Her husband ...

    The Rijksmuseum

... and show how to live. In restoring this Great Hall to its original design, the museum has restored the memory of a grand and very important ambition. Art can tell us how to live. It should heal us: it isn't an intellectual exercise, an abstract aesthetic arena or a distraction for a Sunday afternoon." I support the need for us to think and approach life in a different way, just as they are trying to do with art at the Rijksmuseum. Art can help us to open our minds to ...
