We are now approaching the Saxon "Switzerland" on the border with the Czech Republic. This is mining country and reminds me if the Colorado mining area. Silver and a bunch of rare earth metals were hauled out of this region until the mines died. ... Gardena - sadly it was 9 km ! It was stunning scenery which I tried to appreciate but in truth I was stuffed. So it was a grind up the climb, but is made it. Then the massive storm hit - it thundered down in sheets of wind-driven rain which quickly turned the road into a river. We waited it out for a while and thought it had cleared so set off on our 11 km descent. Then the heavens opened again!! I have never been so cold and wet and unable to see on ...

... there is still a very noticeable one, despite 25 years have passed sine!
Factories, large and smaller ones are unused, windows smashed, lots of houses with broken facades, and so on... When arriving in Zwickau, there were compare to before, hardly any people around, and Zwickau is not a little village.
The struggle to find a place to sleep, the empty streets and the starting rain, did not help my moral.
The next morning things looked a bit rosier again, I ...
