    Rude, unfriendly, unhelpful sevice

This place is cheap as chips - a single room with fan and WiFi can be procured for a mere 120 baht. Needless to say, the accommodation is very basic (hard single beds, paper-thin bamboo walls, etc. etc.) but this is nothing compared to the unnecessary rudeness of the Lamchang hostess. She initially short-changed me (quite possibly an honest mistake), but after insisting on having my correct change refunded, she became so unpleasant and rude that it made the rest of my stay very unenjoyable. This was even AFTER I did my utmost to be kind and pleasant to overcome the initial misunderstanding. Some friends stayed at a much newer, more modern, cleaner establishment up the road (Thai 1 On, Moon Maung Soi 9) for only 150 baht for a single room with WiFi.

Soon you see them out on the street squatting next to their little makeshift grills while the men sit on their overturned buckets socializing in little circles of very-often inebriated testosterone, while the children remain within the confines of their living space expected to entertain themselves - always. (Entertaining children is never a parent responsibility here.) Later they all bed down on mats laid out on cement ...

... afternoon, Natasha and I tried to go and find a place to go and do yoga. Everywhere that we went was closed. There was signs posted on the doors that the owners would be gone for two months... Apparently Thai people travel during this time because it is so hot in Thailand so tourism is low. No worries though, we found a place holding class Thursday morning that we can make it too! After our failed attempt at yoga, I decided to get my ...

... exchange place and a local apartment complex on an unpronounceable street (for me), the hostel was all green (seriously - signage, concrete floors outside and in, a couple walls, and even a halogen light) and oddly artsy. The 100 sq.foot patio out front had a few low tables, stools, parrrot and chicken cages (really), and lots of shoes on racks and the floor, the first of what would be a common sight in Chiang Mai as we visited temples (wats) all over the city. We stepped and ...

We tried to find a place we had seen earlier but instead had to settle for a Mexican which was adequate. Then we headed back to pack up for our trek as we had limited space for stuff to carry with us.

We took a Tutut to meet Helen and Faye for coffee. Helen's grandmother had a checkup at the hospital and she was given a perfect bill health at 98. She is one feisty, beautiful old woman! We spent the morning at the Luho church. Faye translated as we sat in the front row as honored guests. Helen had done a fundraiser for the church in the past and though she is not Luho she is devout ...
