... shouldn't have taken the first agent's word for it. Seemed to be ships sailing at all hours - must surely have been one with space on it overnight? Definitely the only way to do this route. However, we get by: but I wouldn't recommend Ventourist line: cheap, for sure; but tacky -very, very tacky!Another night in an anonymous port.

Bari, Apulia, Italy marcdolav... be met with a stammered "erm, where do your parents live?" which, if I were inclined to take the ****, merits "Los Angeles" with a look of scorn as they fumble to figure out whether I'm Chinese or Japanese (nobody ever guesses Korean).

It's getting really weird now that I've left town, having come to considering myself a Korean-American Londoner (not English, British, or god forbid European), and the stock ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy david_chungAfter a short amount of time in Pompei we hopped on a train to Bari. We took an overnight ferry to Croatia. We just about missed the boat because our train was late. So we did what you should never do, we accepted a cab ride from a random at the station claiming to be a taxi. Generally it's safe, but I still never think its good to get ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy burles... It was edible, if not a bit onthe lukewarm side. We scoffed down food with Calvin and chatted. After dinner we went back to "our seats" and gathered a group to play Phase 10, including Calvin. The game was good fun, other people were playing Guess Who and Barbie Uno. we wrapped it up midnight ish..and headed to bed. Cory came first, Calvin last..ah well.. the luck of the game. No alarm and giving breakfast a miss tomorrow..sleep in!
Bari, Puglia, Italy jasndan... hire a car! We had decided to travel around the region rather than staying in one place, so we could really get a feel for what it was like. The further we drove from Bari and the Puglia border, the higher we rose, the wilder and more beautiful the scenery became. Basilicata is the most mountainous as well as the least known region of southern Italy. We found out before we came that tourism is not big in Basilicata, although Italians ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy louise123Woke up at the Hostel early to a catch our train.

Took an hour long train to Napoli. In Napoli we had about 45 minutes till our next train, so we decided to get coffee. Apparently here, you go the the register (before you can look at anything) and order what you want. Then you take it to the counter and they give you what you ordered...crazy. Well after 3 attempts each at a ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy ryanandamanda... conversation with the clerk, just to make sure she gets the right information I write everything down for her, my name and car registration, in my very best and clearest block handwriting. It's not until later that I discover she has made a big mistake with my registration number and alarm bells go off in my head. I couldn't get a sailing for Sunday, not unexpected, but I did manage to get a ...
Bari, Italy laineebee... but we still found a bit of a "shortcut," getting into a line shortly before the official anouncement was made, thus not having to wait in line with hundreds of other embarking passengers. Why did we buy a shirt for David? Because David packed mostly Hawaiian shirts, and was sticking out as an obvious "American tourist." (the pictures in today's gallery have stories/captions) D & J
Bari, Italy dtopping... the Jadrolinija! We were literally up ALL NIGHT rolling, shaking and trying our best to not fall out of our bunks! Laurie repeated a silent chant all night and it went something like this "calm, steady and level", hoping that the seas would calm down and trying to envision her straight horizon! This seemed to help Laurie but she did not get more than 45 min of sleep during a seemingly "calm" moment of the night. Ryan did not sleep a wink either but did not have to do the silent ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy rlineurope... I had been sad all day about leaving Emilie and Aude behind. The pizza helped me forget, if only for a few moments of pure, unadulterated bliss. The crust was incredibly crisp but still had a soft and chewy interior. Ham - good. Margherita - incredibly chewy cheese (probably the best section). Another cheese one - possibly pecorino. Goat cheese - light, fluffy, and creamy - like eating cheese-flavoured clouds! Anchovies - overpowering. The olives didn ...
