Ganganagar Road, Lallgarh Complex Bikaner, Rajasthan, India, 33400, 151-254-0201
So off again and this time to Bikaner. The ride again was approx. 4 hours. I slept of course on the way. We checked into our hotel - Lalgrah Palace. It was very nice and is the current home of the royal family in Bikaner. Sections of the palace have been converted into 2 hotels while the royal family still lives in another section. It was built during Ganga Singh, who lived in the palace from 1902. Our room was spacious but the sheets smelled! At least that is what we think it was. We had lun...

Bikaner, Rājasthān, India seorajeshkumar... known for their running ability, most often used in the Indian army. The last type from Gujarat are darker and are used to provide milk that has extra fat in it, which somehow gives more insulin and is helpful for people with diabetes. So we saw some baby camels and some pregnant camels and then some camels in "school." Lots of camels. The piece de resistance was their cafe which had all their foods (coffee, tea, ice cream) made with camel milk ...
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybar... to restore to life the son of a grieving storyteller. When Yama refused Karni Mata reincarnated all dead storytellers as rats, depriving Yama of human souls. The holy rats are called Kabas. Eating prasad, which is the holy food offerings, covered in holy rat saliva is claimed by believers to bring good fortune. We took their word for it but didn't fancy trying any. Having a rat scamper over your feet is deemed to be most auspicious. Chrissy was very brave ...
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India tomandchrissy... home to thousands upon thousands of rats - small skinny greasy not-all-alive rats. rats played around giant bowls of milk, scamperd across the floor and in and out of holes in the walls and floor. Wayne and i were also tipped off where the lucky white rat was, so we got a peek at him too...and on that note we also ended our visit to the temple... Now we have a bus back to delhi in a couple of hours....
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India akreger... were curious and wanted to talk to us. Back in Bikaner we did pretty much nothing. Watched a movie on HBO (yay for English TV). Found a grocery store - first one in India. It had cheddar cheese, which was not, in fact, cheddar cheese, but it made a good dinner. Then we checked out and climbed on our bus to Delhi, hoping that we could get the afternoon train up to Amritsar. It was going to be a long day. So its nice that we had a low-key one today. Erin
Bikaner, India youngtravellers... and a local artist did one on my fingernail. If you look closely you can see a temple on some hills, birds, and elephant and my name, all on my fingernail! I visited the most unusual temple so far, Karni Mata Temple, also know as The Temple of the Rats. Story has it that Karni Mata, an incarnation ...
Bikaner, India gypsymichelle... go. I have lots of pictures of all the rats being fed in the temple (considered sacred in this temple because they are believed to be the reincarnations of the villagers.) We saw a white rat, considered lucky as it is a reincarnation of the god of this temple. Then we went to the largest camel farm in the East (according to our guide). We saw lots of baby camels. They were so cute.
