Travel Blogs by Travelers Who Stayed at the Lakki Village Amorgos

to Amorgos

Bade farewell to George & Janet and took the short ferry trip pver the Amorgos, which I sailed past loads of times, but never visited. I spent a few days in at the Lakki Village Hotel in Aegiali. One day went up to Langada where Janet used to have a house. She said to look up her friend Michaelis who used to watch over the house for her, so I went up there and looked for him. She said I wouldn't have any problem as he was the village' combined violin-player, carpenter and barber; sure eno...

Amorgos: Lagadha to the windmills on Machos ridge,

Today we had a special treat with breakfast, loukoumathes, light, yet
fried donut holes covered with honey and cinnamon. We took a van to
Lagadha, and started up the donkey path to a little church high above
the village. From there we went to a saddle where there were ruins of
windmills, previously used to grind grain. We continued along the
ridge and then around the side of Mt. Kourkelos to a sheer cliff drop
off wher we had fantastic ...

Amorgos, Theologos Church and Monastery

... everyone went to bed immediately and slept until
breakfast at 8. It was a slow moving group today that headed out of
the village on a rocky stony donkey trail called a calderinia.
We made our way up to an 8th century monastery and church, founded on
the location where John the Evangelist lived. Apparently he could gaze
over at Patmos and decided it was better, so off he went for a little
apocalyptical journaling.
During the hike we saw several donkeys ...

Nauseating Busrides and Amazing Views

... campsite. This required us to bus back and try again, the second time with success. After checking out the monastary, we hitch hiked down to the water and rinsed off the sweat. That night we watched the Athens soccer team with the greeks at camping and learned a thing or two about football, and who were supposed to root for.

we learnt the best thing to do is pop a gravol when you travel!!! (Aaron's embarrased so i will proudly say i came up with that ;)

The island of Amorgos

... benefit of the wind is that it is dry and brings the hot summer temperatures down to pleasant levels and even a bit cool at night. However, if it is too strong it can make it unpleasant to try to do anything outside. At night the wind would get stronger and you could hear it whistling through the roofing above our room. It would also cause the electric lines to “sing” which was an annoying sound at night.

Another side note about the ...

... of the island before lunch, then swim and siesta. The island is most famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and clear blue water. What struck us about this island is that the roads are not tarmac'ed they are dirt tracks. The village is very cute with narrow streets yet cars manage to get through them. We stopped at a local restaurant and had our one of our favourite dishes - grilled octopus. And some wine as we watched the world go by ...

Amorgos

After tiring night trip from Paros to Amorgos, one day to rest was necessary. Yeepee, the beach is really coooool. Then we had nice walks in the rocky heights of Amorgos, but worthy for the great views!! We also went to visit the town/places where Le Grand Bleu was shot. Most important, we had amazing food!!

Amorgos- life is beautiful in cool blue waters!

... and soaking up the last rays of the day. As the sun disappeared behind the cliff hovering above us, we ventured back up the mountain to the taverna at the top and settled into some deck chairs while some the boys played backgammon (huge national game over here) and the rest of us drank frappes and chattered some more amongst Nicks funny jokes. We were then invited out to dinner that evening which of course how could we resist again! Sarz was a little apprehensive too ...

Amazing sunsets and active Volcanos

We caught the ferry from Ios and an hour later we sailed into the most amazing view of Santorini. The Caldera, which used to be a volcano, but after an earthquake hit, the middle of the island sunk leaving a basin or caldera. Sheer volcanic cliifs circle the water. You can see the layers of volcanic soil and the white houses perched ontop of the cliff. We spent the first day around the pool at our hotel, just relaxing. That evening we headed into the Fira (town ...

A beautiful Island with few people and fewer tourists. Stay at Marias, everywhere else is basic. The restaurant on the western edg of the harbour is great with great views. A walk over to the east has a fabulous beach. Would be a paradise were it not for the wasps. It was like a bad re-make of the Wicker Man.
