Historical Traveler Reviews Lakeway Inn Bellingham
I'm suprised no one else has mentioned the horrible design of the hotel. Right in the middle of the hotel is an indoor swimming pool. Seems like a good idea in the rainy northwest until you realize that you can hear every child's scream, laugh, splash, etc. from inside your room. The hotel is a big square with a large indoor "courtyard" in the middle where the pool is located. You can look down on the pool from every floor. And almost every room door faces this courtyard. (I hope this makes sense). Regardless of this poor description, know that if you want to be in your room during the pool open hours then you will be listening to other people's children scream. On the upside, the hotel bar has really great martinis.
If you are looking for a quick overnighter, it should be fine but it is too close to I5 and wasn't in the greatest of neighborhoods traveling with a family. The hotel room was fair, however, the pictures on the web make it look nicer than what it really is. The small indoor pool was packed with teenagers which made it really difficult for my kids to enjoy the pool since they basically took it over playing ball. I actually couldn't wait to check out as soon as I checked in. If I travel again to the area, I will only stay in the Fairhaven which is the historic section of Bellingham with many quaint shops and cafes which is really nice to stroll around.
Not the Best
Hotel lost our reservation and another couples reservation. Have stayed there 2 years prior and they have had issues in the past with reservations. We keep coming here because they have a fabulous bar, Poppes, but for 1/2 the price and a $12 cab ride, we will stay at the Comfort Inn on Meridian again next year.
A fine hotel
Stayed 2 nights; clean, modern and the staff were friendly and helpful. If you want to visit Bellingham, this location is convenient to the center of town or the Fairhaven district. I'd definitely stay again.
Superb hotel for the price
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after a long trip driving up from the L.A. area and waiting to sign papers to purchase our new home here. The prices were great, the rooms were very nice, classy hotel, has a lounge inside, and an indoor pool and jacuzzi. Good location, just off the freeway and close to food and grocery store. Really enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommend it to visitors to the area.
The Lakeway Inn was a pleasant surprise. Our travels to to the Northwest took us right up I-5 and The Lakeway was in a conveinient spot to stop for the night. The food was really great and so was the martini bar. Much nicer than the your average Best Western.
Great food, clean rooms, pleasant staff
I live in Bellingham and this is the hotel of choice for my parents when they visit. I have stayed here as well for anniversaries. The rooms are nice and clean. We always seem to get large rooms. The pool and hot tub area is clean and well maintained. Great location for visiting the WWU campus and downtown is just down the hill. Fred Meyers is right next door. Poppe's martini bar is downstairs - excellent - nice place to meet someone for a drink (you can actually hear each other). Sadly, they no longer have a Sunday brunch buffet but that was included in the rooms if you were staying over the weekend.
The staff is always very pleasant to me and my folks. They let me leave flowers or wine pre-check in for my folks and always have them in their room before my parents get there.
The hotel has gone entirely non smoking in both the rooms and the restaurants.
I've attended a lot of meetings at this hotel. The hotel's catered food is excellent and kept well stocked.
Nice Place, Remote Location
Tucked away in the woods between I-5 and a large Fred Meyer store. You must have a car if you want to venture away from the hotel.
Restaurant/bar is nice but on the pricey side. No free breakfast.
Next time I will continue to Vancouver instead of stopping in the middle.
Nice Place--Terrible Staff
The facilities are very nice, but the motel management and treatment of guests leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, we found it surprisingly rude, when everyone else in the Pacific Northwest had been very friendly. I would certainly not stay there again. If you like "big city rudeness" in a small town environment, then this is the place to stay!
Good location, good service
Location is ideal... close to shopping, food, and things to do. Owner takes a personal interest in the guests and is often seen helping out.
Guest appreciation reception with food and wine on Wednesday. It's an older motel but has been nicely remodeled. Parking lot entry can be missed until you learn to enter through the adjoining shopping center lot. A complimentary business office is available with fax, copy machine, and internet access.

... last ferry on the following day at 6 p.m. The ferry arrived and departed on time and by 4:15 we were on Agistri. Much to my surprise, however, we were not at Skala Beach. No problem, a bus was waiting and it was cheap enough. Of course we were haulting the 6 huge suitcases along with 7 smaller ones, so we looked like we were taking over the Island, not staying for just 24 hours. The bus took us and our luggage to within perhaps a half block of the hotel on ...

We have not fit in much blogging over the last few days! Time has been spent relaxing with Chaz's family and heading out to various places. Last week we went to Vancouver Zoo with Chaz's mum Toni and niece Tove. We had a lovely time looking around the animals, and were pleased to get to go with a little girl who was very excited to make all of the animal noises. For the rest of the week we spent time at White Rock beach until the Friday where Toni ...

All groups have to prepare a fixed or non-fixed part of the meal. So if you have a potluck with ...
