This morning we spent time in the hotel doing a little more self exploration. The time was needed to process all we had seen and heard and all the emotions arising from these intense days. Later on we went back to the Epicentre at Mbarara. We visited a few more homes which THP had not yet touched. They were dispiriting. We also did the regular " …

Namayumba Epicentre and a long day of travel

Off we went in our own little bus, piled high with luggage (some had travelled lighter than others). It was a bit of a squash and the potholes and speed bumps (also legendary in Kampala and Uganda in general) meant that the journey was not exactly relaxing. In Uganda the main roads connecting large towns are tarmac, however almost all side roads …

Today I actually slept until 8:30am. I had trouble getting up but Ying ended up coming in and chatting so I had to force myself out of bed. Breakfast was at 9:00am then Oliver, Gerry, Cathy and I went on a all round tour. We left from the campsite on paddle boat (canoe carved from an Eucalyptus tree) at 10:00am and went for a paddle around the islands. We paused near the island markets and watched the people come from all directions via boat to buy their food. We saw many ...

My alarm woke me at 3:30am and I packed my bag and went down to the campsite to help set up breakfast and a sandwich bar to make packed lunches for the day. At 5:30am our Gorilla guide came and picked us up in vans. Vesh made one of the vans change a tyre as it was looking a bit flat. We left the came site at 5:50am and drove 2 and a bit hours to get to the rainforest. When we arrived we used the facilities and then gathered into a large group to be briefed about our tracking that would ...

Day 5: Kalinzu Forest Reserve - Lake Bunyonyi

Woke up at 4:15am, got dressed and had breakfast at 5:45am. Our Chimp tour guide, Robert, came at 6:30am and spoke to us about what we needed to bring and what to expect. We started walking from our campsite straight into the rainforest that was at the outskirts of our camping ground at 7am. We were split into 3 groups - 1 group of 10, 1 group of 9 and Ann with her own guide as she has a broken ankle. It was still very dark due to the time and ...
