Awoke this morning at 7am to glorious sunshine and a nice hot day. Following breakfast we packed the jeeps and met up with Paul who was to be our personal tour guide for the rest of the trip. The Fab Five consisting of myself, Jane, Tamsin, Dave and Stuart set out with Paul as our guide. On our drive South to the equator on the rough roads we stopped at the Equator to observe our passage with due ceremony and the usual (but equally) amazing water 'down the plug hole' test. We also learnt some...
Mbarara, Uganda clarefun22... and went to sleep early. I went to bed early as well but had one particularly bad thing going for me here. I had diarrhea for 3 days followed by 3 days of constipation. During my diarrhea spout, I took some Imodium to help keep it solid. In turn that must of stopped me up. I have never been stopped up before but really wasn’t too worried. I ate massive amounts of food as usual but after 3 days of not pooping, I figured it was time to ...
Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda travel_lover87Two and a half weeks ago I was joined in my Uganda adventure by a fellow medical student and sharer of bowel-movement stories, Miss Alex Dent. Her arrival caused some confusion: firstly because I know her as Eswari and therefore everyone thought that two people were coming. Secondly because Alex is a boy's name. As such I had several conversations that went along these lines:<br><br>"Ahh Alex ... he is your brother?"<br>"Alex, you will be staying with him?!" (Shocking that I would stay with ...
Mbarara, Uganda priya.akhurstWe couldn't imagine how a good breakfast will help our stomachs survives the ride from Fort Portal to Lake Bunyunyi, from the east of the coutry to the farest south of it - near the Rwandan border. It means, in African time - at least 8 hours on the road. The Rwenzori Travellers Inn Hotel is located on the main road of Fort Portal, that goes from north to south, and considered as part of the main "highway" that connects the ...
Mbarara, Uganda gsellaAfter a few days in Jinja we made our way to Lake Mburo. This was not actually in our original itinerary, but we were very glad it was changed. Not only because it made us do less zig-zag-ing on the bumpy ugandan roads, but also because it was a fantasic camp site. Lake Mburo is a big national park and we did a game drive through the park to our camp site late in the afternoon as the sun ...
Lake Mburo, Uganda ccinafricaInorder to show Richard a little more of Uganda, we've taken off to Lake Muburo, with my mates PK and Shirray. Richard is planning to work with animals, so this was his perfect opportunity to see them at close hand. It took us over 8 hours to reach the park. Ive taken a few vechile safaris before but never a Quad bike one!! This was so unique!!! We got so close to the animals and they werent one bit afraid of the bikes ... AMAZING!!!
Lake Muburo, Uganda tinsels_travelsIt was an early start to the day. Lynsey and I woke up at 4:45 am in order to get to the Rwinzori Mountains before dark. We stopped a matatu by our hostel and found out it was going to the Old taxi park. When we arrived at the taxi park, it was still dark. I mention this because the taxi park is in a very sketchy part of the town. They always are. I even saw some night clubs still pumping out some loud music nearby. I hope to experience an African nightclub before I leave ...
Kasese, Uganda dinovagabondAfter our rafting experience Allison fell rather ill, so we laid low for the next day or so in Kampala (I had the fortune of being lulled to sleep by the sweet music of vomiting and heaving - although I must admit I was quite worried and VERY thankful things seemed to clear up by the evening the next day!). Our last day in Kampala we went into the city and picked up a few things for Matt, the brother of a friend of ours who had agreed to host us at his ...
Mbarara, Uganda joseph_hillierOk, this is a long one, so get comfortable..... After a week of using a pit latrine toilet we both feel like we've had a good workout on our thigh muscles! Have a look at the photo of the toilet, you'll see what we mean. This is as a result of our 'mission' trip to an area called Mbarara. We had a busy week before this trip. We visited a local orphanage which was a real example of Christians practically showing God's love to the world. Two men called Joseph and Moses run this ...
Mbarara, Uganda tommy_sar... Rural Rwanda is a place where any mzungu is a spectacle. Do not come here if you hate attention, or don't like being stared and laughed at. When matatus stop to let people off and take on new passengers in rural towns, there is an inevitable silent period before I hear someone shout, "mzungu!" and soon enough the area just outside my window is packed with people. Usually it's about 3-10 teenagers or kids. Here's a one instance: Matatu stops. Silence, some ...
