Udaipur was unquestionably the prettiest and most romatic place we visited, set around an impressive lake and floating palaces. It was unfortunate that the place I admired the most was also described as the most popular place amongst travellers. Still, we hardly saw any tourists at all. Our hotel was on the opposite side of the river to the main town centre and overlooked the floating palaces. Cows and buffalo and donkeys stood on the banks of the river whilst the tide was out, and dogs swam ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India bettypDrive to Kumbalgarh and then Udaipur (3 hours) for 2 nights ACTUAL: Just a few more days. I'm trying to savor them but it's challenging, knowing that my trip will soon be over, and I will return to "my life." Nonetheless, I'm still in India, very much so! ACTUAL from journal (March 18): This morning we checked out of Castle Ghanerao. We journeyed up to the Kumbalgarh Fort, which was at the very top of the mountain range. *pictures* The bus only took us so far and then we had to walk 2 km the ...
Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybarrelaxing in Udaipur ACTUAL from journal (March 19): Started off the day already in Udaipur, so breakfast was leisurely in the dining room of the hotel on the ground floor - eggs and toast - not even an Indian option, so I got a cheese omelette. Our first stop was a walk through the city. En route to the City Palace Complex, we stopped at the Jain Jagdish temple. It was 10 am, just in time for the men's arti devotional prayer. The bells were clanging and everyone in the temple was chanting and...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybarHi everyone Welcome to our India Trip part 7: Udaipur. Udaipur is famous for one thing. Octopussy! It was here that Roger Moore ran through the town tustling with tuc tucs. He also made rampant love to Sheena Easton in the Hotel Pichola which is situated on the famous and beautiful Lake Pichola accessible only by boat. Visitors to this Hotel are banned without reservations!! Udaipur is known as a fairy tale city due to its stunning, picturesque location, little winding market streets and amaz...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India mrsdp.............thank Ganesh and all his little helpers for Udaipur ! It was worth the journey - tenfold. Staggering from the immaculate train station, blinking in the new Rajastan sun and rubbing the sleep from our eyes (well Sam did, I didn't get a wink - but then Sam could always sleep on a washing line !)we checked in to the faded grandeur of the Lake Pichola Hotel. The room was huge, the welcome was warm and the water was hot ! SHOWER TIME !!!! Lonely Planet describes Udaipur as Indias most...
Udaipur, India samandphil... out. That evening I had a banana/vanilla shake and all was well. I wasn't hungry though and didn't want to eat any dinner. We all went to see a local folk dance performance at the Bagor Ki Haveli. It was 1 hour of talented dancers as well as this puppeteer. The last dance of the evening was performed by this older woman and she is now my hero. She had 9 clay pots on her head and was doing some amazing things ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India athena... had enough. We all decided to go back, much to the pain of the guides, even the two dumb British girls who had paid for two nights were against staying another. One night in the desert was enough for us, it would have been nicer without the sandstorm., but I guess it made it an interesting experience. Overall, it was a great time. It was fascinating to see so many camels up close. After a couple of days back in Jaisalmer we were on our way to Nepal.
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India mericanomad... Michelle and Steve turned up; Steve an ozzy and Chelle a Geordie. All together we formed a perfect little group. Udaipur was just brilliant. A very relaxed place to be. I even got up early one morning and went with Becky to sample a bit of the old yoga. I was pretty damn useless at it and the geyser running the show even said to me 'success is not important'. Other than that we just bimbled around looking in the shops; me ...

Udaipur, Rajasthan, India melimeli... bus direct to Udaipur, but based on the number of stops we made, it couldn't have been. However, I didn't notice if anyone getting on handed the driver tickets, and it did seem to have a pretty random feel about it - it was very frustrating not to be able to understand what was going on! But we pottered along. And we pottered along. And then we stopped. This time, not to pick up some more passengers, but to get our brakes ...
