Historical Traveler Reviews Lake Lawn Resort Delavan
I stayed at the lake lawn resort for a weekend. The room was very small, dingy, old and not maintained. The bathroom was tiny and in terrible shape. They failed to mention that the area stunk due to the stable in the vicinity. The pool was completely drained. On the positive side, the area looked beautiful.
This place was awful.. we had a lake front suite with bedroom upstairs but they failed to tell us the lake was drained of water for cleaning so we looked at a mud hole full of garbage. Additionally the room had bugs and smelled of bug spray - Pass on this one!
1 star quality at a 4 star price
Lake Lawn has definitely seen better days. I had stayed here 3 years ago and was impressed with the quality and atmosphere. I was terribly disappointed on my last visit here this weekend. We found it hard to like anything about this place... there was no hot water in the first room we were given, the staff were unhelpful and gave us grief when we asked for another room with running hot water, the second room had sheets with cigarette burns in it, a bathroom door that would not shut, peeling paint and dimly lit. The prices are outrageous and the gold pro shop people curt and unhelpful. Look elsewhere in the Lake Geneva area... this place would not be worth fifty bucks a night. I would rather stay at Motel 6.
They have everything!
Friends have told my family about this place. Since they have enjoyed comming to Lake Lawn for years, I decided to give it a try also. My wife & two sons were looking for a family place for the Labor Day weekend. When we called the reservation staff they answered all my questions in detail, and signed me up for a family package. I was a little leary at first, but when we arrived and during our trip I was very impressed. The staff was very friendly and helpful in planning activities for our boys. They have pools, golfing, horseback riding, etc. My boys had a great time. Although I didn't get a chance to go to the health club area, my wife said she had a great massage. We stayed 3 nights with all meals, golf & spa cost us $600-$700. I small price for the amount of fun we had.
Still a Charming Place
We are life long vacationers at Lake Lawn (50 years plus). Can't help but become nostalgic when remembering the rustic beauty, charm, and serenity of years past. I know we will never return to that era, but I have to admit that we did enjoy another short stay just a couple of weeks ago. We had a very nice room, right on the lake. The dining room is still beautiful as it over looks the lake, and offers very nice menu selections, along with a great buffet. It is still a great place for families with kids. Hope that future plans will follow along with Lake Lawn traditions, and keep it a great place to get away from it all, and just relax.
I have stayed at Lake Lawn for the last four years as part of a business conference. I think the quality of the lodge has markedly declined. I found the lodge dingy and filled with poor customer service. The food is marginal and the shoreline is woeful. The per room price is far too high for this lackluster resort. I would avoid staying here at all cost.
Beware of the Reservation Department
Watch out for the reservation group.... I called several times to discuss "Internet" specials only to find the rooms are unavailble at that 'price'. Twice the reservationist tried to sell me bigger rooms at much higher prices than adverstised on the web. Finally, I did book the room, only to have my daughter become extremely sick with streep throat. I called to day of the reservation department to attempt to cancel my reservation, but I was within the 5 day cancellation policy and was going to be fully charged regardless of wether or not I used the resort. After debate and some compromise, I was offered the same rate on another week-day, that week. The head of reservations told me, "this is a business and we have to make money when we can." User beware, the only goal of Lake Lawn Resort is to 'make money'.
Wonderful stay at Lake Lawn!
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan. It was a mini-getaway, 2 nights. We purchased a his/hers package consisting of golf for him and spa package for me. He thoroughly enjoyed his 18 holes of golf, while I was pampered with 4 spa treatments from massage therapist Patricia. The rooms were modern and clean. The staff was accommodating. Both the restaurant and deli were A-1. Overall, the vacation was a great experience and good value and we would definitely recommend it to others!
Lake Lawn Resort was very disappointing. It is definitely not the same place that it used to be. My husband and I spent the night there June 2003. Lake Lawn has a 2 night minimum. That didn't help us because we were going up there for a wedding. We only needed to spend 1 night there. Finally a week before the wedding, special internet rates were available for $109 a night. My husband booked the room over the internet. He told some of the other wedding guests. Some people decided to call and make reservations. They were quoted a higher price and were told they could not get the $109 rate. They had to get it through the internet only. Red flag! Most places would be more than happy to get your business and satisfy the customer.
So we drove up to Lake Lawn earlier than the 4:00 p.m. check-in time and was told the room was not ready yet.(It was 1:00 p.m.) So we came back at 3:30 p.m. We were told again the room wasn't ready. After 10-15 minutes of begging we managed to get a room so we could get ready for the 4:30 wedding. (Let's just say 99.9% of hotels have rooms ready before check-in...this place supposedly didn't. ) Room was disappointing. The wood panels have seen their wear. The curtains were half hanging over the sliding doors. The sheets were dirty. The locks had been replaced with newer key card locks, yet they still managed to leave the old non-functioning deadbolts in. Not enough light, dark and dreary. The next day I checked the bill on the t.v. menu and got another surprise! A $95.00 charge to our account from the hotel restaurant that we never ate at! My husband had to go to the front desk to clear that matter up. He got the impression that this happens often.
The front desk employees were very young and immature, most likely high school kids. They eventually took the charge off the account. We could not get out of there fast enough. It was a very disappointing weekend.
Customer service is definitely not their priority nor is keeping the resort up to date. As my husband was leaving the front desk he overheard another customer say, "This place isn't what it used to be." We totally agree. Avoid at all costs!!!
Lake Lawn Lodge-Awful!
We visited Lake Lawn Lodge in Delevan, WI - the room was dirty, the
toilet seat was practically falling off, so we called the front desk.
No one ever came to fix the seat, so my 70 year old father ended up
falling in the bathroom, hitting his head, and ended up in the
emergency room. Lake Lawn did NOTHING to assist him with medical
assistance. My repeated attempts to get them to help pay the bill for
my father (who is now deceased) have gone unanswered. My father was
nearly blind when he passed away becuase of this fall. I would not
recommend Lake Lawn to anyone. The breakfast buffet was awful too!

It looks like it's going to be a little colder than Wisconsin normally is at this time of year, and we're probably going to see some rain. As long as we make it through Chicago safely on Friday night, it will be all good.
Now I've just got to get through two more days of work and then our adventure can begin!

The scenery around the lake was amazing and there were some incredible properties on the banks of the lake with boats parked out front, ready for the summer holiday fun. We cruised around for about an hour before heading back to the marina to pick up the biscuit for Monique and her friend Jessica to have a ride around in. It took a little ...
Oh my....I'm behind on blog entries again. I mean, it's not that I didn't notice; to be honest, I haven't been in the mood to write daily entries the last couple of weeks and so I haven't. Not the best work model and not something I'm particularly proud of, but there you have it.
Last night, we jumped 85 miles from Pecatonica, IL to park overnight in a long-closed Walmart's parking lot until we ...
