4 / 13, Lal Ghat Udaipur, Rajasthan, India
We went to Udaipur with the intention of relaxing for a couple of days after being fairly active and traveling a lot over the previous while. Having done a little bit of research we thought that Udaipur was the perfect place but we were wrong. Don't get me wrong, its a nice city and the palaces on the lake are beautiful but in terms of relaxation it wasn't right for us. I think that its the most expensive place we've seen (I say that sitting in Lumbini, Nepal) and to relax here would cost a b...
Udaipur, India bshorts... 8217;t worse than we had thought as he had started to complain of eye headaches and stomach pain. A quick rickshaw to a local private hospital and in no time we were in an office with a doctor. Our hearts had sunk seeing the long queue as we arrived but it was at this point that being western and paying three times as much we were fast tracked Disney style to the front. The doctor checked him over and felt it was an allergy to food or something and to ...

our original plan was to visit the central museum, but we realised when we arrived there, it was monday, the museum, along with most of the other tourist attractions, was shut. we decided to visit the zoo instead. i have never been to a zoo before, but if they are like the one in jaipur, i dont think i'll be going to another. there is something about a cage that takes the wonder out of seeing a tiger.
we walked into the pink city, a large fort ...

On the second day I started the day with a massage at a place just next to our hotel. There was a resturant there as well where we had eaten the night before. Paul met me there for breakfast, an Indian breakfast of puris and fried vegetables, and then we went off sightseeing.
We started at the city palace. We didn't go into the main museum, which was quite ...
We made it back to Udaipur safely! and the city has never looked this good. Our drive to Jaisalmer was long, about 10 hours and was definitely an experience. The roads were super narrow a lot of the way, especially through the mountains. I guess you could say that we were all a little on edge until we got to the city. It's a lot hotter there than it is here and is definitely more in the desert. Everything's got a bland brown color to it and ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India mtroozenWe arrived in Jaisalmer after a 10 hour bus ride from Udaipur. We arrived at Jodhpur at 3 am and decided to continue on rather than deal with an Indian city at that hour, a choice I later regretted as we heard great things about Jodhpur. However, all the cities in Rajasthan are uniquely special in their own way. Around 40 touts greeted us at the bus stop, it brought me back to Indonesia and I felt the wrath of India for the first time. We ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India mericanomad... temple was chanting and praying - it was moving. The noise drowned out everything else, making it impossible to think of anything else. We stayed for a little while inside and then we walked around outside before retrieving our shoes. Then Indira and the group walked a little farther to where the City Complex began. It cost 50 rupees to get into the museum and 300 for using a camera inside! I was willing to pay for admission but skipped the photography. Instead ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybar... in the middle of the lake, but one of the things you DON'T get there for your $1370/night is a full lake. The lake has been very dry for the last two years, and there's almost a land bridge leading out to the hotel which used to be an island. In other parts of the city, cattle graze and children play where there used to be channels and water passageways. It hurts the romance of the scene a bit, and may be a partial factor for their tourism suffering ...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India randfamily... other bus's and eventually she managed to get us on a sit down (supposedly ac) bus to Mumbai with a little help from currency. Amazing, i was completely lost and she managed to handle it all. All that mattered was that we got the bus. In short the bus journey was cramped and hot, at the back of the bus we appeared to be sitting on some heater, all the seats reclined except for Jess's (she was by the window) and so she was trapped between her upright seat and ...

The jewellery was flashy and plasticy, and some of it was hideous. However, Mukeesh was keen that we picked out a piece we liked, saying it would be a great honour if we "took one". I picked a piece that was reasonably attractive, assuming it was a gift and that these people were really ...
