then took the Bluff Loop Trail around and back to the parking lot.
Since we had completed nearly all the trails in the park, we decided to
finish them up, so drove to the visitor center parking lot and hiked the
Bear Swamp Trail up and back and went around the short Air Awareness
... began. A moderate walk across a swamp, the slime from which was used to make pitch. The sky lived up to its promise, and a thunderstorm and rain caused us to take shelter in the old church, along with other visitors. A couple of the guides, also caught in the rain, gave talks to keep the crowd informed on the history while it poured outside.Inside the church, we could see the cobblestone foundation of the original church, through glass set in the floor.
Today we left Washington for south Virginia, nearly down to the border with North Carolina. We had a lot to fit in, and Ron was very anxious that we get to South Hill at the appointed time to meet some brothers and sisters.
