... which are amazing formations. That night I went down the road to the coast with some people from the hostel and in the dark we spotted lots of little blue penguins coming in to rest for the night and making lots of noise. They even go to sleep sheltering in the Victorian precinct, across the railway line, where there are holes in the bottom of the walls sometimes. We also had a walk around Oamaru gardens and had a quick look around the main town which has lovely ...

... look for shell fish. They came back with a bucket of mussels the size of which I had never seen before. A delicious roast lamb dinner, reading, conversation, and a jigsaw puzzle completed the day.

We were a little upset that we had spent money to see what we did when we really could have seen penguins for free. However, we would not know to look out for a raft, we wouldn't have learned as much as we did from the researchers, and we wouldn't have witnessed the fight over the best nest. I guess you win some and you lose some, but it was still a unique experience. ...

... we called it a day with these guys and went for a walk back to town. It was quite a long walk, but thankfully it had stopped raining so then the next stop was the "new to town" local brewery. "Scott's" was first opened up in Auckland and made the first gluten free beer in New Zealand, but after quite a while and some researching, they found out that it's actually cheaper to ship to Auckland outside of the town, so they made a move. Not just a short move to another town but a move ...
