We had a repeat of the "small world" phenomenon of Patagonia at the campground. The campground is well outside Oamaru, really in the middle of nowhere. While we were checking in, Jeremy, an American we met on the Milford Sound cruise, came in the office. ... are territorial about their nests and we did see some fighting going on between a small group of them around one nest in particular. Later on we saw a penguin guarding that same nest and were told that it would probably be on guard all night, going in and out. These penguins are social and like to chat, which is part of the reason they fight over coming into each other's nests, but they do actually live in the same "home" for their entire lives, which is about 8-10 years.
