Day 11 of 49 (Sep 18). How rude!! The park maintenance people were out with their huge, noisy lawnmowers at 7 AM this morning. I realize they may want to get a head start while it is cooler, but that is just too darn early. It’s ...

We got on Turkey Ridge Road (FSR 755) and drove about 3 miles to the turnaround at the end of the road. From here, we began hiking down FSR 755I for about a half-mile to the end of this road. Along the way, we some some interesting flower ...

... Again, we luckily found a good deal on a Subaru crossover that had fewer miles and was in better condition then his VW. Aaron really likes this vehicle, which will also be able to tow the small fishing boat he hopes to buy. Aaron is looking for a job in the area.

We connected with our good friends, Jim and Nancy Hackett, who have been superb in helping us blend into the Lake Keowee scene. We have gone to a ...

Lastly, Bettles itself is located about 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle. As such it experiences about 30 days worth of 24 hour days without a sunset, 15 days on either side of the summer solstice (around June 20th, which is when we were there). At the Arctic Circle itself, there is one day of 24 hour daylight so you can ...
