We’d settled upon an anchorage between the islands of Gluppö and Fläskön (58°35’N, 11°12’E), which turned out to be quite a dramatic spot, with stark, bare rocks. Our berth was alongside the outer pontoon but about 8metres outside us was a rocky islet, so we knew that no other boat would raft against us as they would block the channel, so we were quite happy with the choice. Moreover, we later discovered that there was a free bus service to town so in our book, this was a much better choice to spend the night.

... less directly east of Nord-Koster and on the way to Strömstad. The anchorage itself was quite small, only enough room for us to swing but with sufficient spaces off the rocks for several other boats.

We had a brief walk around to see the old buildings inside the fort walls and got to hear some of the history about the fort's role in the war between Sweden and the specific defense justifications for the star shaped mote. Anyway, that was yesterday and today was a different day in terms of weather. It was cloudy when we set off and rain was promised for the afternoon. We thought we might as well save a few bob as sitting on a boat in the rain on an anchorage is no different to sitting on a boat in the rain in harbour but with one major advantage to the former ...
