The sound system for the theatre was restored yesterday, 19th February and access to the Internet was restored today, 20th. Our journey from Brisbane was calm with a temperature of 27C and light winds. The Captain announced that overnight last night we would be making our way through the Great Barrier Reef and that we would be taking on board a reef pilot to assist our transit through the reef. We dropped anchor in Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday Islands at 7am ...

We were not up quite as early today. I think that the fresh air yesterday made Scott and I a little tired. We ate at the restaurant at the Peppers resort as we had breakfast included. They had a cereal and bread buffet, and then a selection of hot breakfasts from which we could choose. At 2.30pm half of the group went to do an activity ...

Unfortunately there wasn't any sun whilst we were there but we did see some string rays and large groups of crabs that buried themselves in the sand when we went near them. I really wanted to bring some white sand home or some dead coral from the beach but its all protected and Tara said I would get stopped at security. When we were back on the boat we set sail for ...

This morning we packed up, boarded Matilda and left Cairns on the Bruce Highway. We passed lots of sugarcane fields being cut and crushed, and saw the longest privately owned railway in the world that transports the canes to the factory. We also saw lots of banana trees. It was a long drive to Airlie Beach, where we would board the boat to the Whitsunday islands - 9.5 hours. There are 74 islands that make up the Whitsunday islands - named by ...
