Surprisingly we both slept well on the boat and didn't need the sea sick tablets I had bought in preparation. The view of the sunrise from the boat was beautiful and was the start to another day of superb scenery. We were all up for breakfast at 7am and in the sea snorkelling on the reef by 7:30. The fish were beautiful but it was a bit disappointing as the water wasn't all that clear for seeing ...

We have spent today sailing around the Whitsunday Islands on a boat called Waltzing Matilda. It's a fairly small boat with only room for 15 people to sleep. We set sail at 08:30 this morning and had lunch served on route to Whitehaven Beach, AKA paradise. Whitehaven is an absolutely stunning beach, the best of the best and is part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Site. Due ...

A travel blog entry by emmaandsophie on Dec 06, 2014

We arrived in Airlie Beach in the evening and checked in at our hostel
before deciding that as it was a Friday night we had to go out to the
pub even though we were knackered. We went to a local pub with live
music and bumped into 3 girls that we had met in magnetic island and
      spent the night with them.

The next day it was pouring with rain
and we were relieved that we weren't leaving for ...

Woke to an overcast sky. It knew we were going home. After breakfast, packed our bags for 10 am checkout. Went for last walk down memory lane before going to airport in Pinetrees bus at 11.25 am, only 5 minutes to get there. Built in 1974 by Army Engineers after the 2flying boats became too old to fly. It has ...

Day 66. Whitehaven Beach (4th best in the world?)

Boy oh boy we needed the sleep. Unfortunately the bed was a bit hard but at least we got 10hrs in as the crew woke us up at 0630. Standard, cereal, fruit and toast for breakfast. By 0700 we had already set off with several people still waking up. As we looked out at sea we spotted some fins pop up and down, luckily for us, the staff thought they were dolphins.

First port of call was the famous Whitehaven beach with its stunning white shifting sands. The rib with its ...
