Crossing the street in Saigon is akin to a game of Frogger. The amount of motorcycles and scooters is bewildering. Drivers come in two shades. Some are patient and friendly, willing to slow down or move over for the weary pedestrian. Others simply charge ahead without so much giving you a look. Obviously, crossing the street in this city can be a harrowing experience. Some intersections are worse then others. The government has posted tourist helpers whose job it is to assist you to cross the...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam chriskatieWaking up from my hotel after a day of hiking and sight seeing was refreshing. I had a whole list of things to do, but I wanted to get to the shops and stores first. Leaving without things to remember by would make the total trip a waste! I headed over to the Cho Ben Thanh Market at the west end of Le Loi, I noticed the clock tower and headed on to the small aisles of vendors and stores. I walked along the path, seeing barely any room to move as people walked by and customers yell and haggle ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam dannydOnce again, a new morning in the wonderful Ho Chi Minh City. There were many wonderful things to see, but I decided to take a break from the wonder and glamour and visit a cathedral. It wasn't a temple, as I took steps up the concrete, I took a look back and saw a statue of Virgin Mary. I didn't want to take a venture inside yet, so I walked back to the statue and saw a colorful garden within another statue, the statue of Madonna. I couldn't tempt myself any longer, I rushed back to the steps...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam dannydI left fairly early in the afternoon to head to a museum! Not just any museum, but a museum about the greatest historical event in Vietnam. The Vietnam War. The museum was in itself, grueling and fascinating. There were many weapons and tanks on display along with gruesome pictures of the Vietnamese soldiers lying on the ground dead. They also showed effects of toxins and the Agent Orange Bomb used on Vietnam to clear forests of possible suspicious VietCong soldiers. This made me feel very sa...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam dannydLong one day trip on the plane, when I arrived at the bustling airport in the year long hot weather of Vietnam, carrying my lightly packed bags, I left for the Lac Vien Hotel to register but couldn't help and notice all the local homes during the cab ride. The hotel was clean and nice, considering how cheap it was, the hotel was a pleasent place to stay. Cafe in the corner and a room with computers.Still excited as I was 22 hours ago, I couldn't wait to head around the town and see the sights...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam dannydDAVE -- We just finished lunch in a little roadside restaurant run by Buddhist nuns near Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Proceeds from the restaurant fund their operations and keep fresh paint on their pagoda (Buddhist shrine.) Our tour guide and driver stopped the van there because they knew that the Buddhists would only serve vegetarian food for us! I think they would have preferred someplace a little meatier, but they are very accommodating to us. Keli had some noodle-veggie soup w...
Saigon, Vietnam davekeliSaigon (officially known as Ho Chi Minh City) is a bustling city where motorbikes are pretty much doubled on Hanoi! We started our time in Saigon battling the crazy rat race on the back of some motorbikes from the train station to our hotel. We spent our first day wandering through the city, doing some last Vietnam shopping and taking in the sights. We went to the War Remnants museum which was a shocking a sobering look at the American was in Vietnam and the lasting effects its had on the peo...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam dixieannie
... probably quite rightly....

We all had a great night down Koh San road catching up and the the next morning bid our fond farewells. For the next leg of the journey it will just be Ben and me going through Vietnam. So it is goodbye to a group i've travelled with for around two months. It's a pity and it just won't be the same. But all change is beneficial so the next chapter should be just as interesting and unpredictable as the last. As if to prove this theory as soon as ...
