We arrived in Riomaggiore late yesterday afternoon. We hiked the short path between Riomaggiore and Manarola, known as the Dell'Amore. Dell'Amore is the "lovers" meeting point between the two cities. Discovered a quaint tradition - lovers memorialize their love by closing a padlock together on the bridges.

Going to see all 5 cities today!

We'd been warned that November is the rainy season in Italy but we wanted to avoid the crowds (and a map of the associated high prices). Unfortunately our interest in camping was thwarted by the campgrounds being closed. This may have been a good thing as it got very rainy for a few days.

... see the stones at the bottom of the sea from all the way up at the top. I bet we could still see 15-20 feet down. I tried to capture an image of a boat anchored off shore where you could see its shadow underneath. While you can tell what it is in the photo, it doesn't do it justice. Back at Riomaggiore, we enjoyed a late dinner down on the waterfront with the American couple who calculate they have spent five years in Europe over the years, amassed with short trips, apart from one 6-month sojourn. I had clam pasta and it was delicious, just like the first time I had tried it as a teenager on a family holiday in Australia. It was a fun evening. (Sande, if you manage to read this online, well done; Ken, I hope it’s not too boring).
