We boarded the ferry early on Friday morning from Port Fromantine to make the 25 minute crossing to Ile D'Yeu a small island with a population of 5000 people set 18 km from the coast to land in the picturesque Port Joinville.
The island is 9 .4 km long and 4 km wide and it is like going back in time where few cars drive along the narrow roads and bikes are a common mode of transportation. There is ...

PS a very scary night. We were all awoken by a howling creature and we were so scared until it went away!! So after a disturbed night we woke to clear skies, very cold air and a clear sky. We got away early -8.45 to take a advantage of the forecast good weather. With 30 miles under our belts by lunch time we had crossed the last of the Marais. We sunbathed by the sea and had a special treat of endive with our bread cheese and tomato. And then back in the saddle ...

A fast day of making the most of the sunny weather. 54 miles has brought us to another rough camping spot just beyond the beach at St Jean. A great view of Sables d'Olonne along the shore line, then Marais, then miles of sandy beaches bathed ...

... The schedule is not a simple daily routine, but rather different each day of the week which I believe makes time go faster and school more interesting. Since I have my classes around the same students during the day they all understand my situation which has become very useful for me. Other students have been very willing to make sure I have the right assignments written down in my agenda and have been eager to practice their own English and help me with my French. This has ...

      Day 10 to St Hilaire

A chilly night tested our new sleeping bags. After a chilly breakfast we have enjoyed 46 miles by the sea I through very varied landscape - marshes (marias) with loads of oyster beds and shrimping nets suspended from raised sheds by drainage ditches - then sand dunes - and long seaside beaches to St Hilaire. Eventually found open campsite and now preparing supper. Bon ...
