Wow it's hard to type with cold hands! Today marked my first ever winter hike over a high mountain pass, and might I say it was incredibly different. I spent a good chunk of it waist deep in snow,( yes we were stupid and didn't bring snowshoes) crawling out of holes and back onto the icy surface just to fall through again. ... all of this without a horse and on foot. It's not as hot as DV but still hot for a 2-hour hike (wished we did have a horse or Sarah was stronger)! Now we're Hank Marvin so we check into a Lone Pine bakery for yet another huge plate of eggs any style potatoes bacon ham sausage toast biscuits and gravy etc etc. Stagger out of here and head to the hills again, through pioneer towns with a population of 66 then 12 then 54 then bugger all ...

... and the sun beats down hard at this altitude. I would say that during the day the temp is around 80 degrees, but at night it drops down to near freezing. I'm always tempted to leave my rain fly off at night so that I can look at the stars, but I'm pretty sure I would freeze to death.
