... Stopping at the first big lake, Tenaya Lake, we cautiously exited the car once again to get a photo. The plan had worked - no mozzies! Yes! We stood there for a while, got back in the car and drove on to Olmsted Point. We decided we would walk this one, but which way, up the massive granite boulder or out on to a granite boulder.. Up the massive boulder it was. It was well worth the torture of the walk - what a view!

... a new road so we saw a full parade of trucks including his recent fav the road roller! It was probably one of my fav lunches too since it was in a real café and not a ham sandwich picnic – yay!! Had a great espresso in Lone Pine to kick start the day (although I instructed the process to prevent over extraction). Drove up to the Mt Whitney Portal, our first sample of bear country. Then climbed around the Alabama foothills where many a classic western has been shot. Caught a local high school football game driving through Big Pine, hit some thriftstores (got a 25c copy of Martin Denny's Enchanted Sea) before arriving at Mammoth Lakes in the afternoon. ...
