Each of the elephants looks real, and you get the feeling that real elephants are strolling out of arches into the middle of the street! Apparently the fountain is known by the locals colloquially as Les Quatre Sans Culs 'the four without *****' (translation into English by some stranger)! We wanted to hire bikes and ride to a lake a little way out of town, ...

... spectacular. We passed through some amazing towns and villages. I took heaps of photos. We had a lovely glass of local wine on arrival and have been offered a free wine tasting tour at 6 pm. You should have seen Marks eyes light up! The wine tour was very good - there were some very old bottles down in their cellar. We went up to the restaurant for dinner. ...

Arriving at Allevard, I was delighted to meet Christian and Suzanne, friends of Liz and owners of the Tour du Treuil. Due to patchy rain at the time, the attached photos where taken on a sunny day last year. After spending the night at the Tower, I left (in the rain again) for Geneva and Lausanne to complete the end of my 4000km ...
