I've just popped over to Malta for a day & a bit (as you do!) to say a quick hello / goodbye to my parents (and bring them lots of goodies over for the last time in a while).

The weather is a little warmer than the UK, but not as warm as it's going to be in a week's time (ha ha ha).

Anyway, I'll keep this blog short so ciao for now!

Anita x
Mellieha, Island of Malta, Malta oltona... boiling anger and she left her parents in no uncertain terms concerning her feelings of abandonment. Managed to bribe the children to walk the 40 minutes back to the ship by offering them half the bus fare it would have cost us. Olivia spent hers on chocolate and well you don’t even need to guess what the boys did with theirs.

Palma de Mallorca

This is the administrative centre of the Balearic Islands and was warm and ...
Malta, Malta sewtersojournsSleeping on the upper bunk of the ship's cabin reminds me of having an MRI. When I went in for the procedure a month ago, I was rolled under a flat plate two inches above my face and my head was secured to the table so I couldn’t move for twenty minutes. I don’t think I got over that terrifying experience because even though the cabin’s ceiling was two feet over me I felt claustrophobic. When we rise at 6:00am from ...

Rabat, Island of Malta, Malta gagnerargent... Maltese lunch and tucked in accordingly. After lunch we take a slow wander back to the car and decide to head over to the west of the island to a place called Dingli - it was always going to be a bit hit and miss as there are no main roads going there and as mentioned earlier, there is a distinct lack of road signs or indeed any signs at all in the countryside, so really its pot luck. John now gets the award for finding the most pot holed 'road' of the week ...

Lija, Malta jkosmides... Rabat on the other hand was a slice of the real Malta. Bars buzzed with energy as the locals got stuck into a huge Sunday lunch following mass, and old men sat around in groups talking about only they know what. I happily wandered around the town for about 20 minutes, before I made for the one sight I wanted to see, St Agatha's Catacombs. Unfortunately, it being a Sunday, they were closed, but instead I was able to visit the nearby St Paul's Catacombs ...
Mdina, Malta will... having connections is GREAT, we just walked straight through customs with 3 trollies full of bags, because our cousin Katia's husband Robert works as head of operations at the airport!!! We went to the apartment, Masascala that Uncle Jo owns and was letting us stay in... it was really nice!! And we had a great view!!
Marsaacala, Malta elizabeth21... cheaper than the mixers so many a lunch time 'sesh' started and finished at the NAFFI. The dock yard was on the opposite side of the harbour from Valletta, so the quickest and cheapest way across was by 'Diso' (Gondola). If you missed the last one back it was a long and expensive Taxi ride. Always check the boat had a motor, as it took ages to get rowed across! Two memories of Straight St, the 'Gut ...
