Historical Traveler Reviews of La Tour Centre Ville Montreal
Cheap rates, cheap style, NO charm
from word10
This place is dumpy, poorly staffed BUT with a great location for attending the Convention Center (Palais de Congres). Room large and includes kitchen but with minimal utensils, no coffee filters or sponges to wash. Could not get consistent wake-up calls, and when I left a poster (from the convention) they were unable to send it back.
If you want a barebones and relatively inexpensive room with a kitchen (for families) then this may be the place. If you want anything that resembles a modern and well detailed hotel, avoid this place like the plague.
Great hotel, great price!

My husband and I stayed at La Tour Centre-Ville from June 25 - July 3rd, 2004. After reading some of the other reviews before I left, I was wary of what I had gotten myself into. However, it turned out to be a great hotel for the price we paid.
We paid $85 CDN a night for this very nice hotel compared to the $130 - $150 I was being quoted for other 3-star hotels in the area. Judging just from the outside of some of these other hotels, we got a great deal. The room was as big as a studio apartment with a little "living room" area. The kitchenette was a separate room, decently sized, and well-equipped. An IGA was just down the road, so we saved on a couple of meals. We probably just could have used a microwave. The bathroom was also a good size. I don't know what people are talking about the room being dirty - the cleaning staff came promptly everyday and the furniture, carpet, and floors were fine.
The location was great for the Jazz Festival at Complex Desjardins and we just walked to St. Catherine's Street, Old Montreal, Mount Royal, and even to the nightlife on Crescent Street. The subway station was also only two blocks away.
The only thing that could have been improved was the lack of equipment in the exercise rooms and the size of the pool.
I am just amazed at what I received for the price I paid for this Montreal hotel! I definitely recommend it.
Perfect for the price

My friends and I stayed here during our 3 night spring break trip to Montreal this spring. It was an excellent deal for the price. Since we had more than a couple people, having the 2 rooms was excellent. And because we had the kitchen, we saved money on food, which was great for people on a budget. The rooms weren't beautiful or anything, but we weren't paying hundreds of dollars a night either. The hotel itself wasn't the best, but the price was excellent, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
As a comparison, friends of ours who were there at the same time as us were paying nearly as much as us to stay in the itsy bitsy rooms that the nearby Travelodge provides, which are more like staying in a hostel than a hotel.
Run & Run Fast - Moved to another hotel

This place was so dirty - we moved. The location is great and the rate at lodging.com was great, but still.... We booked 3 rooms for a group traveling together and never could decide who had the worst room. The windows (inside) had food on them, the carpet was worn and appeared to not be cleaned in many years. I would not recommend this to anyone and I am requesting refunds from lodging .

Stayed there in April 2004 for three days. Nice size rooms, very modestly furnished. The hotel's definition of cleaning up the room consisted of making the bed and changing the towels in the bathroom. There was a large piece of potato chip under the glass living room table the night we arrived and pencil shavings on the carpet behind the bedroom door. Three days later, when we left, they were still there.
And when we booked the room we were not aware they gave an AAA/CAA discount. Two night into our stay we noticed the tiny sign on the door. They gave us the discount for the third night but not the first two. We'll never stay there again.
Huge, positively surprised

We stayed here in the winter, and got a very good last-minute price. I can't imagine this hotel costing the same in the summer :). Anyway, when we entered the room we had the same reaction as one of the other reviewers: the room was huge, much bigger than our apartment :). The suite included a spacious kitchen, including plates, pots, glasses, cutlery, even a cork skrew! A living room with sofas and a desk. A big bedroom, and a gleaming new bathroom. One of the other reviewers said that the furniture was a little worn-- I didn't think that was the case in our room. It was not particularly impressive furniture, but OK. The bathroom and bedroom were quite new as far as I could tell. The room had big windows, which made the room bright. The hotel also has a pool and a gym, but we didn't try those. The staff at the lobby was friendly. This hotel was definitely 3 notches above the kind of places we usually get for this price in Montreal. The location is also good, it's next to the entrance gate to Chinatown, and a short walk to the pedestrian zone with all the restaurants.
Bigger than most of my friends' apartments

I was pleased to see that the suite was much larger than I had expected. It's very bare bones, but great for group getaways and any time you need to stay on the cheap. Restaurant downstairs, minutes from city center. Pleasant walk to the old city.
I'll definitely stay there again.
A home from home!!

We got this very cheap and very last minute from Expedia. We arrived not expecting much, particularly as the outside of the building is nothing special. The suites however are nothing short of small appartments. Kitchen, bathroom and lounge area all provided. After one night we asked for a different room to escape building works outside and we were moved without question. The location is also excellent for the old town, downtown, china town, banks, restaurants and the train station.
Good choice for cheap stay

This 'hotel' seems to be a renovated old apartment block but I paid CAN$85 for a suite and it was superb value for the size and the location is excellent (minutes walking from VIA rail station). However the building is old, the rooms are worn and the linens/towels old and bare. So if you can accept this and dont want to pay double the price for a Delta or Marriott type hotel this is the place. When in montreal I also saw other places which I almost booked via the internet at the same price and they were scary - so I vote this one of the best budget accomodations in montreal.
Great location - nice for families...

We stayed here with a family of five and were VERY pleased! It is a
fabulous location for the Jazz Festival - just a few blocks walk in any
direction and you are there! Our suite was VERY light and bright - and
the kitchen made our life easier.
Just a 2 block walk to the Metro too. A big grocery store and mall nearby are very convenient. The decor is not opulent, but very clean and comfortable. The service was outstanding - our every request was granted in minutes: from moving our friends room closer to ours, extra pillows, microwave in the room, more towels at the pool, etc. The hotel pool is a bit small, but was seldom crowded and has great city views. Will definitely be staying here again!
