... well. Otherwise Comillas was a pretty town, but then they all are in this area. Generally there are a lack of English speakers around too, which is great for practicing Spanish but often confusing. When they say something I don't understand I have perfected a certain 'squint' to demonstrate my confusion, after which they usually slow down their speech and use hand signals. This squint has served me well and I plan to use it a lot for the rest of this ...

... and then. The funny thing was every time we get close to a cape, strong gust come with big swell and breaking waves which made us a little uncomfortable; then as soon as we pass the wind drops and sea calms a little as if it was trying to tell us something?!? The most amazing scene was just before entering the bay of Gijon, this long fish jumped out of the wave then dived into another! Perhaps that was the welcome ...

... backed right onto the fence in our backyard. One of the morning, all the cows in the field came up to our fence, and I nearly got to touch one. Almost all of the cows we saw in Asturias wore cowbells, just like the cows in Switzerland do. The only cows that didn’t wear cowbells were quite small, so a lot of calves and young cows didn’t wear them.

One of the days we were near Arriondas, we drove to a small train station in ...

... past a garage. Only one person there spoke English (he was just passing by at the time) and was able to translate our problem. An hour later we were all fixed and were able to enjoy a peaceful evening at our amazing FREE campsite for the night which was right by the beach. The following morning I spent some time surfing but even the waves were to small for me!! (It was basically a lake) We then spent the rest of our morning bike riding around the incredibly amazing hills which ...

We spent a few days in Gijon which was a very interesting town, with a wonderful atmosphere and great cultural activities. We just happened to be there whilst a cultural festival was going on. Each evening there was a concert by the marina, which displayed the various styles of music of the (Asturian) region.

The town itself was fairly modern, with a few hidden gems.

    A most pleasant stay.
