Adventures of Sanur

... chicken feet and pigs ears. The Lawar was cooked jack fruit and beef in tiny pieces mixed with fresh uncooked chickens blood. It tasted okay, but the blood didn't really appeal to my taste buds. - A police officer in the restaurant ate three plates of it! Babi Gooling is essentially roasted port with stuffed spices - this was very good. The pigs ears and chicken feet tasted much like pork crackle - we purchase extra to eat at the hotel. After this we went to get our ...

Bali Hai Season

... able to stay up on the board!) A couple of old school friends of Tracey's, Melvin and Lisa, happened to be in Bali on their honeymoon, so we met up with them one evening for dinner and drinks. It was nice to have some company at dinner for a change although poor old Dean had to listen to Tracey, Melvin and Lisa drunkenly reminiscing about old times for 4 hours.

Once Dean had made the decision to abandon kiteboarding for the time being, it meant that we could arrange some ...

Keremas Surf Competition

... out on the waves, another forty in the restaurant hanging out and watching, and a huge tower being set up for the competition that would take place the following day. Chairs were being brought in by the armload (aka stringing chairs through a big bamboo branch while two people carried each respective end). It was a circus and definitely not as relaxing as usual. Even went we went for a short swim, the water was as far from relaxing as possible. The ...

... to sell you anything and everything, actually the same exact thing every two feet. It had tiny streets that were packed with Mopeds and Vendors. We headed towards the beach and unfortunately it was covered with litter, we apparently missed thousands of dead fish being washed upon the shore weeks earlier. lol Supposedly the trash is just an effect of the rainy season and is quite clean in the dry season. But even with the ...

yet another magical entry

... further away from where you were trying to go. The other two guys in the glass were having a rough go as well, one guy went in early. Near the end I got up on an impossible wave and impressed my instructor which made it all worth it. I may go down to Kuta for one last horrah with the boys but right now I have to run back to my homestay before I **** my pants, I mean shorts, its hot here.

Ubud

... 3 1/2 hours, just in time for sunrise. It was a very difficult climb, straight up the volcano with no switchbacks. It was absolutely beautiful at the top and we were able to see everything before the clouds rolled in. The way back down was pretty treacherous and VERY ******* the knees. Darren's knees recovered well. Ubud was a pretty neat town; full of art and had a different vibe. We enjoyed our stay here. Off to Candidasa, another beach town.

First Stop on the Road Trip

... exploring new beaches and villages as we circle the island. We had a good first stop on Balian Beach. The town was tiny and it seemed that there were more cows that people. The water was so blue and the beach so black. It was a great combination. We got a little bungalow on the cliff and basically watched the waves come in. The place also attracts a small amount of experienced surfers.

A scorpion sting makes Bali bor-ing!

... wet, missing a flip-flop and looking thoroughly cheesed off - as it turned out, all of the '24-hour' pharmacists and doctor's surgeries were closed and the nearest place open was a long walk away. Unfortunately in Bali the backstreets around Legian are very narrow and aren't great at the best of times, all uneven and lined with potholes. It was as Charlie trudged down one of these that she happened to step in a large puddle, which turned out to be a open drain. She fell down ...

Sanur Part Duex - Return to Paradise a la Henry

... busy. But still there is something about the people there and the temples and the offerings that the muslim side of Indonesia is lacking. And it was good to return to our gracous hosts Michael and Brama at the Paradise Bali who treated us as if we were long lost friends yet again. We quite enjoyed seeing these two and spending some more time at this little find of a hotel. During our few days here we hung out with dear Henry; looking for surf (and scoring a good day ...
