    Back on the bike!

Back on the bikes! 60km from Allemont up to a little town called Villard Reymond. The village way tiny. On the way we had to ride through 3 pitch black tunnels the longest which was 370m. There was one little old French lady with a cafe overlooking the mountains, so we stopped for some apricot tart and raspberry mousse. She was the loveliest lady! Back ...

    Rest day at Allemont

A travel blog entry by eyork on Jul 29, 2015

We left our beloved botchy field, filled up with petrol and drove around the corner to Allemont. We hunted again for gas, or some way to make it work, but no luck. Again. Not very happy! Not only with the gas, but also troubles with the fridge and 12V powerpoints. Baguette for lunch, set up the van with electricity and went for a walk. Cold and rainy this afternoon, but still able to wander through the town of Allemont. A nice quiet rest day ...

We hired (what turned out to be pretty inadequate! ie ******!!) mountain bikes from the bike shop in Bourg and headed up to Les 2 Alps in the van. Four bikes in there is a squeeze!! We tested the bikes on the cross country trails then bought two ...

... the life!! We cruised back down the Alpe d'huez and again turned off at corner 4 and went down via Allemont. We stopped at the lake and dipped our toes in, but nippy but enjoyable! Then home - heed mtbikes for tomorrow and got some groceries for dinner. Another sneaky shower and the caravan park around the corner then off to bed. We're pretty exhausted after all this riding - we climbed 7000m over 350kms this week :) Definitely earnt our ...

    KOM Day 6

    ... not in the forecast.

We unloaded the vans about 7 miles from the start of the climb. Our whole group, all dressed in our new Thompson jerseys, jumped on the road. As we pulled up to the start of the climb thousands of cyclist and thousands of fans were heading up the mountain to find their spot to watch the race. The first 1.5 miles of the climb are pretty steep with an avg of 10% incline. To give you some perspective, 10% is approximately the pitch of the hill ...
