Came down the tollway travelling south before heading for the coastal route north of Lago di Lesina. Being very brave, chose the route along dunes separating the Adriatic Sea from Lago di Varano. No sign of the Adriatic as tightly massed eucalyptus had been used both as a wind break and dune stabiliser. And then there were the bottlebrush...... …

... an extremely successful travel agent, if ya know...people still actually used those. I used nearly every type of transportation this week and navigated my way with flying colors! We never missed a bus or a flight, and we may have messed up on the metro, but that was easily fixed. I was really proud of myself! I think that trip might be my last big, complicated excursion that I want to plan, but at least I know that I'm capable! And I'm not even broke yet!!

Day 3. No rain today so I got the train to Alberobello which is about 10 km away. The view was amazing with all the little trulli houses scattered throughout the countryside. They're little round houses that the poor people used to live in. Now they've all been or are being done up. Still lots of dry stone walls around here. It's very agricultural. Had a good day wandering around Alberobello. Went into the tourist trulli and the Basillica of Medici. Gees it ...

... of white wine. So before your food comes they bring out a basket of bread and 2 slices of bruschetta like bread, 1 slice has olive oil and tomatoes on and the other slice has a fairly strong creamy cheese. All very yum. My food was delicious although the lemon sauce was quite tangy. The wine was very good, specially for a house wine. They don't charge for the bread and bruschetta. 18 euro all up. After lunch I went ...

Raining again this morning. It's quite cold too. Got a taxi to the station - 12 euro - about 5 mins driving. Pretty expensive. Regional train to Martina Franca - about 2 hours, 7.70 euros. Countryside is very flat and quite stony. There's some dry stone walls and I even saw a shepherd with his sheep. Lots of olive trees (some very old), grape vines, market gardens. Lots of little villages only about 5 mins apart (by train). There's older school kids on the train. Don't ...
