Best kept secret B and B

My friends and I stayed at this bed and breakfast in Mola just south of Bari. It was the best yet. Large old English style accomodations, we stayed in an apartment with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, large veranda overlooking the main street. It even had a full kitchen. The breakfast was the best we have experienced. It is worth the trip just for the accomodations. A nice beach area with breath taking views is just 10 minutes south in Polignano.

A must see for those off the tourist path.
Trulli in Puglia

This is where Pietro, an old Italian guy, jumped into Bruce and navigated us to the trulli. He saved us from a traffic jam in the narrow streets of Puglia.

Pete was also called Pietro while in Italy. :-)

Trullo comes from the Greek word, "tholos" – meaning “dome”. See the pictures of the wee houses.

We found the Belvedere pub here too - also the name of our local in Aus – meaning “beautiful view”. It was beautiful.

Finally made it!

... awesome!! i love plane rides now :) and after the three flights in a row, i feel like an expert now! the third flight was from Rome to Brindisi, which is where the hotel is that we're staying in. We're actually staying in the hotel, which is really cool, except that its three of us in a room. We have Italian class every day for two hours, and the first ...

Ostuni - Italy

... time now, Brad could mix it up with the best of them, driving Italian style. Barge through a tiny space, hand on horn, mount kerbs, force pedestrians out the way, manoeuver through spaces with an inch free on either side, but it was no good. On the whole trip, after an hour and a half of trying, this one town defeated us. We´d planned to go and see the bones of St Nicholas (as in him of Father Christmas fame ...

Alberobello, Italy

Today was a site seeing day for the four of us. We hopped the train and headed to a unique little town called Alberobello. This is the only place in Italy that has the cone shaped roofed houses made out of stone. Alberobello is a UNESCO Site and is something not to be missed. Due to train schedule constraints we didn't have much opportunity to spend time there. Only a quick look around, lunch and then headed to Lecce.

Trulli......truly!

... And what better way to experience them than actually staying in one! A trulli is a small round, or group of round, structure that is made completely from stone. It appears that they came about, hundreds of years ago, when farmers were clearing their land. They utilised the stones to build trulli. My understanding is that the original trulli were built without any type of mortar. The roofs ...

ferry to Greece

Found our way across from one side of Italy to the other ok to the port of Brindisi, not top of the list for tourist destinations but handy for a ferry! On arrival we were pulled over by three police cars, yes three! I searchd for my documents awaiting the "papers please Engander" where 10 policemen jumped out and spent the next half hour taking photos! We took a cabin and arrived in Greece the ...

... the other until they are conical and come to a point at the top. It was very much a tourist trap but very interesting to see how the people of the region used to live. That night there was a party at Piutri. Again masses of food and wine and entertainers. All very nice. I was chatting to a professor of music at the Lecce university and telling him about our exploits at the winery when he said "Yes, I know" "But it just happened yesterday!" I said He grinned and said " Yes, but ...

trains, cars and boats...all in a day's work

... Thanks to him though, we made it on the ferry just in the nick of time. The ferry itself was not too bad. We met a ton of people who all said they were staying at a hostel called the Pink Palace. The Pink Palace is another hostel that is supposed to be one of the world's best. We stayed up practically all night talking to all of our new friends. Such fun!
