    Came down the tollway travelling south before heading for the coastal route north of Lago di Lesina. Being very brave, chose the route along dunes separating the Adriatic Sea from Lago di Varano. No sign of the Adriatic as tightly massed eucalyptus had been used both as a wind break and dune stabiliser. And then there were the bottlebrush...... …

    ... It's are area where people built homes in the limestone caves. Unfortunately, we arrived there around 5 pm. Everyone was tired and disappointed to arrive in a fairly large city (60,000) rather than driving up to see cave houses. They only had one car left at the Hertz in Monopoli, and it was bigger than I wanted, but they gave it to me for the price of their least expensive model, and as it turns out it was exceptionally good on gas.     Mark and Raye are just about to install on above ground swimming pool on the base of an old rainwater cistern. One side has been demolished and the rubble needs clearing.
