... it, so they recommended a cafe further along the lakeside. 20 minutes walk later, we were sitting there, drinking our coffees and cokes, and watching the swans and ducks on the lake. A short walk further to the next ferry stop - and the heavens opened again, only this time it was torrential. Once on the ferry we could barely see the shore!

Well obviously, if you're going to drive in Italy on the first weekend in August, you need to be going north. That was lucky!

Having finished packing up the car with what seemed to be three times as much as we brought with us - how come it fit getting here, and doesn't on our way back? - we added a trip to a supermarket to fill up with cheap booze and Baci chocolates - ah that explains it!

We woke at a reasonable hour and had breakfast at the hotel. The boys enjoy the idea of getting their own breakfast and the buffet concept!! When we were ready we walked down to the lake and got the 10.25am ferry to Bellagio. It was a 2 hour 20 minute trip that zig zagged across the lake to all the beautiful towns that sit along the waterline.
