We left Santa Fe this morning on our way to Amarillo, Texas with a stop in Tucumcari, New Mexico to view some of Historic Route 66. As we left Santa Fe on 285 S, we noticed a gradual decline as we moved away from the beautiful New Mexico mountains to flatter lands with green grass and cattle and horse ranches. As I made my way through Clovis I stopped at a rest station to stretch and get a bite to eat. They had a really cool restaurant called Thai City and I ate the Golden Dragon for $10.95. After that I got gas at a Chevron for $41.66.

High on my bucket was (and I say was) Taos. Poor Tom drove about nine hours, some of them in a raging rain storm. Taos was a bust. We immediately headed for Santa Fe.
The ride, however to Taos was nothing short of spectacular. The landscapes were like paintings. We traveled through sage brush fields and majestic mountains. We miss so much of this beautiful country when we travel by plane.
