... hoping for a more fully written role for the actress, while Parker proves impressive, sharing the screen with the veteran cast with an ease that belies his age. His scenes with McKellen are an absolute delight.Condon, Cullin and McKellen pull off the impressive feat of paying homage to Holmesian conventions yet simultaneously deconstructing the character. The detective goes out of his way to discount the many embellishments Dr. Watson and others have made, the ...

... recommended a restaurant called Delancey. He said its run by a foundation that helps troubled young people get back on the rails by supporting them and giving them jobs within its business's for two years. He said the food and service is great and that he knows that because he worked there for 2 years, when his life had gone off the rails "through the choices I'd made." We started the tour at midday on a brilliantly clear day ...

... After the ride we strolled down to Fisherman's Wharf (again). It was not a public holiday today so it was much less crowded, and we were to see one of the area's more unusual attractions, a colony of sea lions on Pier 39. They are odd creatures, but it was great to observe them at close quarters.
We had planned to walk across Golden Gate Bridge this afternoon (honestly!) but as it was windy and we were told that the only way back was on foot, we gave it ...
