After 4 hours on a horse I have discovered parts of my body that I didn´t know could get bruised. In fact, everything aches - my back, my knees, my...well you know! ¡Pero valió la pena! (But it was worth the pain!) The trip we took Saturday was to the volcano Paricutín, near Uruapan in southern part of the state of Michoacán. It was a fabulous trip and I´d do it again...after a long period of recovery!
On our way to the volcano we made a stop at ...
Leaving Colima we had the most beautiful scenic drive and the most beautiful view on the two volcanoes. It was hard to leave and of course ***********centrate on the road : ) Our next stop is Uruapan. Unfortunately, there is not much positive to comment on this city, it's a pretty ugly dark city. The city is tagged all over and most kids have an attitude wanting to be real gansta kids. Kind of strange... Since it is in the ...
Uruapan, Mexico lenitasworldJust accommodation for now.........
Accommodation
Uruapan offers its fair share of good places to stay around the centre of the town. But if you're travelling on the tightest of budgets you may need to get a room at one of the few small motel style hotels that are dotted along Calzada Juarez. This is the main road that runs through town and is located seven blocks ...
A few days ago I left Rancho Las Canoas Altas after a five week stay, and I don't think it's possible to overstate what an awesome WWOOF host farm this is. The ranch is located about a kilometer outside of a pueblo called Erongaricuaro (it's a mouthful, the locals simply say Eronga), on the shores of Lago Patzcuaro in Michoacan. I woke up each morning to the sunrise over the lake, and spent my weekends visiting the villages and ruins that circle the ...

Jose Ignacio, Uruguay thom_rm... in 1823. By the inevitable scene of martyrdom an old man bowed his head to mumble a prayer. From the hollow of the faux redeemer's head a narrow staircase wound upwards into the raised arm of the statue. I squeezed my way up to emerge in a tiny chamber at the base of Morelos's clenched fist. Narrow, windowless slits offered stunning views across the lake in all directions. Foolishly, I put my head out through a gap and gazed down to the pavement forty metres below ...
Uruapan, Mexico fintanAfter the Tango show last night we were pretty knackered so we had a few beers in the cafe next door to the hotel and then headed up to bed early (1.00am). The next day we were heading to Colonia in Uraguay by ferry. So we get to the terminal to cross through customs and we couldn´t find our passports and tickets (to get home)!!!! After a few frantic minutes Juan called the hotel to check our room - and luckily they were there. The ...
Colonia, Uruguay mcgoniglejpHey folks, just a quick little note about something else that happened when we were in Uruguay.... Aaron has a Saskatchewan Roughrider T-shirt in his wardrobe rotation, and it makes an appearance about every 4 days or so.... He happened to be wearing said shirt on our first day in Colonia and, as we walking back to our hostel an afternoon of checking out the historic center of the city, we heard a voice frantically shouting (in heavily accented English ...
Colonia, Uruguay kendranaaronWe took a couple of days to drop by on Colonia Uruguay. On Monday morning we took the 1 hour boat between Buenos Aires and Colonia. This was a good opportunity to take a trip into Uruguay. We arrived and went in search of a hostel. We were a little taken aback at first by how the money exchange. An icecream cone, for instance, in Aregentina would cost around 6 pesos...$2.50ish ...
