... scene of the imprisonment in 1816 of Luisa Caceres de Arismendi, wife of one of the leading combatants against Spanish imperialism, and a local heroine. She was 16 years old at the time and wife to the Governor of Margarita. It was intended that through her capture she would spill the beans on where her husband was. She was thrown into a small dark room, feed and watered through a hole in the door, and lost her un-born baby as a result of the deprivation ...
Margarita Island, Venezuela suenson_taylors... this one includes all food and drink up to 11pm – fantastic, my first all inclusive experience whilst backpacking! I even have a hairdryer and a fridge in my room, so it is very luxurious. They don’t speak any English here (but do know a little German), so somehow I am managing to get by on my amazing Spanish skills :s I think my most in-depth conversation has been with Guaco the parrot that sits by reception and can only ...
Margarita Island, Venezuela vickicooper... I am so glad, it is imense!! (to follow).
My Spanish is coming along nicely. I was speaking with the cleaner of Tita in the morning of leaving and wanted her to slow down, so I did......."muy desayuno, por favor", she must think he is crazy asking for very breakfast! I will not forget now how to say "mas despacio"!!!! But this was fun tambien.
... were robbing Johnny. Needless to say, it wasn´t like that at all. When we finally got on our plane to Margarita Island, we were kind of like, was that it? We´ve had many more trips in the states that were much more interesting. Anyways, we are quickly learning that we are not very good at speaking Spanish. Or understanding what anyone has to say. While Margarita Island is a tourist destination, for the most parts all of the tourists ...
Margarita Island, Venezuela marcijohn... stance on Colombia´s armed conflict as serving terrorism. Only pro-government, anti-guerrilla NGOs are being left untouched! Is this what they call enhancing security and democracy? So while the media are publicly criticizing Chavez for pushing for FARC to be recognized as a "belligerent force" rather than a "terrorist" organization, they should really look into the real motives and consequences behind labeling the FARC a terrorist machine ...
Porlamar, Venezuela sheenasumaria... bought natural pearls , found only in that island. Have a rum drink stop in one of the beach tourist place. There are lot of wild white doves and cacti on the this island. Back in the ship, talked with a tourist who cruised 18 times.. Went dancing after dining with a Dutch couple.
Margarita Island, Venezuela lagalag1... a thrill as I had hoped. Lonely Planet can be a bit misleading at times.
So I found a taxi, who drove me to Playa el Agua and we looked for a hotel for a bit. I ended up at a hotel which, for the life of me, don't remember the name of! But it was about $28 USD a night, everything included - EVERYTHING. Accommodation, full board and all drinks, alcoholic or not. Also there was a pool, and the hotel owned a space at the beach where I'd get a ...
... irettesatt.
Porlamar, Isla Margarita, Venezuela ole.dolven... my bank card and that's about it. The most difficulty I've ever had with money was in this country. There are lots of bank machines. The trick is finding one that is compatible with your bank. Most people did not have the trouble I did, but it is strongly recommended that you carry US funds. The black market was the first place I got cash in Venezuela as neither bank machine in the Porlamar airport worked for my card. Once I found Banco Provincial it was gravy though.
