and $3.25 a gallon in southern Texas...
I was debating whether to fill up with gas before leaving Mexico to get a better gas price.
Didn't fill up with gas in Mexico by default - but I think that $1 a litre and $3.25 a gallon
are about equivalent in price - so it didn't really matter...

Will I be able to make it to San Miguel in one day, or will I have to take two days to get there............I had been going West from Knoxville, Tennessee to Dallas, Texas, more than 1,500K . From Dallas it is straight South all of the way to San Miguel, with a few bends and turns....

Excellent service and convenience to border

    from Stansworth

Others recommended the hotel to us and I'm glad we stayed there on Memorial Day weekend. The building was interesting and the service across the board was excellent. Don't underestimate the value of staying right at the international bridge. We'd get back from Mexico and be glad we were already at the hotel and didn't have to then get the car and drive somewhere else.

    Disappointed

    from lirwin13

I was very disappointed with my stay in Laredo at La Posada. Laredo itself is not much to write home about. The hotel was nice, and probably the nicest around, but not what I was expecting. When I made the reservation, I was told it would be a courtyard view. When I arrived, my room had one window - the door through which you enter - and it faced the brick wall of the next building. I asked for a switch and got one with a pool view and balcony. However, there was a red ant problem in the bathroom and I had to switch again. My third room was a lovely one bedroom suite. The hotel is well-kept, but not a lot to do there. The pools were both cold (despite 90 degree temps outside). The pool bar is only open seasonally, and wasn't scheduled to open until mid-May. Breakfast in the restaurant was good. I didn't feel safe venturing too far from the hotel, as the surrounding area is not that nice.

La Posada has got to be the most beautiful hotel in all of Texas! It has the feel of "Old Mexico". The ambiance, the location, the staff, the food.....incredible!!! If you go to Laredo,La Posada is THE place to stay.

Greatest Hotel in TX and USA

    from irishdude2

LaPosada is by all accounts one of the finest hotels in the entire USA.

With their wonderful three restaurants and bars, swimming areas (2), swin up bars, and excellent accommodations, they rate a 4 star review.

The staff is extremely courteous and professional, as well as caring.

This is THE hotel in Laredo, TX, or any other city in the USA. I would put them up against some of the finest hotels in the country! I've been staying there for over 25 years and they remain the finest and best.

The rooms are spacious with a great decor.

    Excellent stay

    from anonymous

This hotel is excellent. The rooms are large, the room service is very quick, and the staff always eager to help. Anyone wanting to stay at this hotel should ask for room #140.

This place was great, highly reccomended!

I was not expecting too much out of Laredo but I was impressed by La Posada.

    Great fun, La Posada

    from anonymous

I read the bad review and was nervous, I hadn't been to La Posada since I was a teenager. Nearing 30, it was a great experience. True, no one gets in a hurry around here and the rooms are over priced. However, you have SECURED PARKING right beside bridge #1. You can WALK from the hotel easily to bridge #1. (I'm overweight and it was just a block, not bad!) The porters readily give you a map of Nueva Laredo, explain what might be dangerous,& give you pointers in the spanish language. We had a wonderful time! We watched people trying to cross from our balcony and others returning from day passes from the front of the hotel. The pool and food at the hotel are great! It was great fun and we will go back next summer! Visit the markets on the weekends to get the best deals! Don't take a cab or carriage ride in Mexico and stay on Guerro St.

    We Love LaPosada

    from anonymous

My girlfriends and our husbands always stay at LaPosada. It's almost like staying at a beautiful hacienda. It's a little overpriced but we have always been treated like family there. The evenings on the balcony, the pool, it's just all so pretty. We are planning a girls only trip in October and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

La Posada? Don't fall for the stupid hype. This place is a pathetic joke!

    from anonymous

And La Posada is, from my experience, a sorry attempt at "luxury" accommodations. I travel a lot and have stayed in hotels all over the world. From executive suites at the Ritz-Carlton to the cheapest room at a Motel 6, I've seen them all and have experienced what TRUE hotel quality and service is all about. La Posada was probably THE WORST hotel experience I've ever had. I rate La Posada at the absolute bottom of the list, even worse than your average sleazy rat-trap. Here's why:Despite all of the obvious hype, I was thoroughly UNimpressed with this over-rated and highly over-priced establishment. My check-in was miserable because I had to stand there and listen to some loud, self-important and highly obnoxious lady scream at one of the desk workers over a charge that she claimed was wrong. This is a bad thing to see when you're traveling and just checking in to some place you've heard so much about. When I went to check out (three hours early the next morning because I could not sleep and was miserable), I was informed of the "parking charge". All of a sudden, I could understand why that lady was so angry the day before. I was actually apprehensive about giving these people a credit card because of that, to be honest. Maybe everyone else got a nice room except for me. But I don't know why I was treated like no one cared about anything, because I'm one of the nicest and least difficult hotel guests there is. I almost NEVER complain about anything. If an unfriendly, arrogant, and blazé staff is what you like... if you don't mind having NO HOT WATER in your room... if you don't mind being secretly charged for parking and never informed of this until checkout, (even though you're supposedly a "guest"), and if you don't mind falling victim to their over-priced hype in the face of "luxury, history, and tradition", then perhaps you won't mind blowing your money on this "hotel". I mean, some people have plenty of money to blow and donf you appreciate friendly, warm service from a hotel staff who cares about their guests, then you would seriously do better at a MOTEL 6 and you'd save a lot of money that way, too. The food? I didn't eat the food there so I wouldn't know. I was so offended that I didn't care to even give any of their over-priced restaurants a chance. This place is disgustingly over-rated and I found it to be quite poorly maintained. The staff is arrogant (an occasional smile of friendly tone is usually customary in the service industry) and doesn't seem to care much about whether their guests are happy. To me, it's a testament to the fact that some people are stupid enough to buy into all of that hype, and THOSE losers deserve to blow their money on what cannot be described any other way than "absolute crap." I HATED this sorry excuse for a "hotel." Oh, and if you're trying to sleep at night, be prepared for loud, obnoxious guests yelling through the halls at the wee hours of the morning... because of all things, these obnoxious guests annoyed me as much as anything. It's tough enough sleeping in a place that's so poorly maintained. The fact the the hotel staff and administration has such little apparent concern for these types of things is all the more disappointing. "PATHETIC" is the word that best describes this sorry excuse for a "luxury hotel." It's the only "luxury" hotel that made me want to get up three hours early just so I could literally get out of there as soon as possible.

Best breakfast this side of the border

    from anonymous

Wonderful hotel with an "old mexico " feel but modern rooms. many rooms open onto the courtyard with pool & nice grounds and have a shaded portico above them. Fine restaurant for breakfast with some great mex specialties. we are gong back with some yankee friends next week.
