A wonderful few days spent in Samaipata with some of the guys from Jodanga; as they had been volunteering for the last month in a children´s centre in Santa Cruz it felt almost like a summer holiday! We stayed at the fabulous Posada del Sol, where we were well looked after by the owners Trent and Maria who honstely served the best breakfast in town. So it was home cured bacon and eggs during our stay, taken in the garden overlooking the verdant valley below. Our first full day was spent explor...
Samaipata, Bolivia janicoo We gave our washing to Theresa, the owner of hotel and she begins to handwash it all as they all seem to do here. (and only charges 20 Bolivianos = about AUD$3)
We book a tour for tomorrow with Michael Blendinger Tours to see the Amboro National Park, and then we inquired about hiring a motorbike. We walk 2 blocks up the hill from town to La Posada Del Sol to hire the bike and then head off to get petrol. (We think) she asks how much money we want to put in so we ask her for B$15 (less...
We head off at 9 with our guide Javier, our translator Alejandro, and a Spanish/Bolivian couple. Our 12km hike went through bush (resembled Australia) to bare mountain top to weaving along a jungle creek for 2 hours. A picnic lunch was included and it was a great day.

... bus to Sucre at about 8 o'clock in the evening, which was the greatest endurance test we have been through yet – a 12 hour journey through the mountains, on dirt “roads”, going through rivers, in the freezing old with no toilet stops! Never again.
Anyway.......then we arrived in Sucre which was much better.
Love to everybody at home, missing you as always
love love love xxxx
Samaipata, Bolivia gordon13... and ¨meayim¨of 2 animals, it was disgusting. the next day we went to see some dunes near the city, so we took a bus, and got to nowhere, and then took another one, and got to another nowhere, and then started walking in the park. luckily some guy who works there gave us a ride to the dunes, and some other guy gave us a ride back to the city when we were done. the day after ...
Samaipata, Bolivia lior77... is just coming onto the tourist radar and with good reason. It´s always springtime and always green. We settled into a great homestay with fruit trees, comfy beds and excellent breakfasts - what more can you ask for. We spent a day hiking in the giant fern forests nearby and another day we trekked through an area known as the Elbow of the Andes - the point where the Andes meets the forest, before turning back towards the Chile/Argentina border. We also took a trip to ...
Samaipata, Bolivia liesbetd... on the patio of this restaurant when a group of stray dogs in the town started fighting on the street near us. Latha first jumped on her chair then on me before I could calm her down. Need less to say she went inside after that. One small step at a time. (Latha´s comment: ¨The dogs were fighting over a female dog, and I was fine until the whole pack of them jumped up on the sidewalk where we were and started fighting with each other! Ugh Ugh ugh.)
Samaipata, Bolivia calvin.latha... to do for the next day. Our next day we headed out for hike. The surrounding area is quite beautiful and the walk took us up past several waterfalls and into the surrounding mountains. In all a great day with more amazing views, this is definitely a beautiful country with very varied landscapes. Our final day in the town was a pretty unsuccessful one. We went for a bit of a wander to check out the town, take a few photos and have a look in the ...
Samaipata, Bolivia freyal... is opening...the word is spreading liek wildfire thru these dusty little streets and we have been told about it many times before we get back to our hostel...it would be wrong not to go ...right!!! :o) Anyway we start our evening at our fav cafe and then whilst walking home decide we might be too tired to fiesta...but maybe one drink at the The Black Sheep bar across the road from our hostel - owned by Dutchies..then off to bed. Yeah haven´t we all heard ...
Samaipata, Bolivia nenebene... really nice relaxed feel to it with great photos on the walls taken by the Dutch owner. The other highlight of the hostel was the gorgeous tan-coloured Spaniel who had the longest ears I had ever seen on a dog. He was a full-spirited delight. Going for a gentle stroll later, we were impressed with the lush plaza. We felt as we did in Sucre, that we must be back in Central America for the care taken. Perhaps it stands to reason that poor countries need attractive public areas for ...
