... t it?) As you’ll see, I have decently big windows in my living room, and when I have them open, I’m always a little concerned that a pigeon will fly in. That concern was justified one day when a pigeon flew INTO my window. Man I was glad I had the windows closed that day! One of the great things about my apartment is the view. Moraleja isn’t a particularly pretty town, but it does have the church, which is what I see out of two ...
Moraleja, Estremadura, Spain ksullivan... I can leave and do whatever I need or want to do until 12:30. For the full-time teachers, they are required to be at the school for 4 hours a day. So, if they don’t have a class or any meetings until 3rd period, at 10:15, then they wouldn’t have to show up until then. Or, if all their classes are in the morning, they could leave early in the afternoon. They can also leave in the middle of the day and come back if their ...
Moraleja, Estremadura, Spain ksullivan... by this last bit) when we entered the last club at around 2:00, there were a good number of people probably in their late 40’s. However, if you consider that we’d just finished a 2 ― hour dinner 1 ― hours before, it’d be like going out at 11PM. Not so crazy when you think of it that way. As I said, neither Kerilyn nor I were expecting this to turn into a full night, but it was a great, Spanish start to my year in Extremadura!
... route was much longer than the route I chose myself - by 27 kilometres! The second surprise was to discover that the new route was short on hills, at least those going upwards! I spent what seemed like an age descending further and further (and needed to stop to don a windproof jacket to keep the cold out!) through the mountains that I had climbed the previous day. I took a picture of a Via de la Plata route marker and before long I passed a couple of pilgrims with whom I ...

The weather is mostly cold, and the albergues (or refugios) are usually not heated, so I tend to go for the hostals, which have the added benefit of privacy. These are simple but clean, and provide towels, which ...
Plasencia, Extremadura, Spain and Canary Islands donreidI have come to the conclusion that childhood injuries sometimes come back to remind you of one's frailty. A long time ago I tried to chop a big toe off at the joint, and just every now and then, it tells me to take the bus .... so I do! But I have had some great walks too, and a couple more photos are in this blog. Pilgrimages of this sort are not the same as a silent retreat. For instance, the internet access shop I'm in at the ...
Plasencia, Extremadura, Spain and Canary Islands donreidArrived here on Thursday. Lovely campsite and restaurant. Had a great day yesterday exploring the park by bike. Amazing site watching the vultures soaring over the river and cliffs. Later today Iīll go out on an organized tour. Hopefully they know where the eagles are.
Plascencia, Castile-León, Spain and Canary Islands charity_cycle... were spent swimming in the river and visiting relatives...and <I did NOT get sick! We returned to Madrid via Avila where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the plaza. The villages and countryside is what I love most about Spain. Donīt get me wrong, I will always love Madrid, but if you want to discover the romantic, typical and most glorious of Spain of yesteryear, you must get a car and venture out to the country.
Jerte, Spain laduque... back into the stadium and continued on. For the next several minutes, the footage of the bull kicking the guy in the face kept reoccuring on the screen. I had a horrified expression on my face and Teresa laughed at me and said it was his job. It occured to me how dangerous his job is. And then I began to contemplate on whether or not bull fighting is as as cruel and demeaning as I had initially thought. The other day, I saw a film called Tasio...itīs an old Spanish arthouse film ...
Salamanca, Spain kmglavin... she told me that she didnīt think anything of it and that she was glad that she had woken up because she was worried that I wouldnīt be able to unlock the door (I have problems with the her locks). She told me not to apologize for accidents. And now, everytime I leave, itīs a joke and she points to the lightswitch in the hall and her doorbell, and laughs. Speaking of apologies, itīs not normal to apologize over here...when you bump into someone on the ...
