... eventually emptying into Hudson Bay. When we arrived at the Visitor Center we found that the boat had engine problems, and the trip was cancelled. We made a quick decision to go back to camp and pack up, head on down the road. When we went to let our host know we were checking out, he told us that he was leaving in 15 minutes for Kettle Falls with a group and there was plenty of room if we wanted to join ...

      Almost out of Ontario

... the $800 entry fee (oh, and the boat and motor). Getting here was another long day's drive. There is a fair bit of repaving being done along with bridge repairs. Those pauses didn't cause much harm, though that one long gravel stretch sure dirtied up the trailer. We didn't stop for a family picture at the giant snowman in Beardmore, but probably should've taken a moment to stop on our way to Nipigon to take in the landscape -- some mini-mountains, the rocky ...

We did do a drive-through in Kenora looking for the best price for diesel and found one of those historic chip wagons in the process. That helped to break up the day a bit!

We have never traveled south on hwy #71 and then #11 from Kenora to Fort Frances ...

... few days where very enjoyable as Norma’s mum’s cousin Barb threw a huge BBQ, that also enabled me to meet so many of Norma’s friends and relatives, and I received loads of chocolate too! We also visited Norma’s church where I got introduced to a bunch of really friendly people, and finally got to meet Jane, Diane and Caren (and they finally got to meet Kermit)! We had also timed it well for Canada day where we got to watch the ...

... back down thru the center of the state. The great scenery continued. My only negative would be that it was fairly flat so you had no great sweeping vistas. One final fun fact. Minnesota's highest point ( Eagle Mt. 2300 ft.) is only 13 miles from its lowest point ( Lake Superior 601 ft.). A great state, well worth the visit, but bring or acquire a boat for maximum enjoyment. Ever ...
