... a maiden's prayer! On the way we went through two locks, one of which had its own tame swans; hence the photo. We handled the locks well, but it's easy to make mistakes. On one occasion I forgot to centre the steering after turning off the engine, with the result that when I started up again, I did not notice the boat hit the wall -- gently. An annoying mistake and constant discipline is ...

... Here we buy some supplies at Carrefours for a picnic lunch, checking out the lovely chateau opposite. I notice some rowers on the river and talk to a fellow from the Royal Club Nautique Sambre et Meuse, which comprised rowing, sailing and tennis! It's a beautiful environment for rowing, and the other sports too I'm sure! We head home via Lustin, with some steep uphills away from the river. After Ivoy we come ...

We did take some photos along the way to point out how really different this country is to the one we've just ...

8th Leaving The Netherlands One thing about any other country to The Netherlands is the topography-- it has some variation. The photos show a number of scenes going into the Lanaye Ecluse (Belgian/French for "lock"). This was one very big lock and it was more crowded than any we'd experienced before. Lucky we were the first pleasure boat in after the two barges had taken most of the room, so we were able to get a very stable position on our preferred starboard side. (Don't ask me ...

Today is raining and cooler, so Pete and I stay put in our room. I am not feeling so good, and Pete wants to catch up on emails and do some washing. We head into Namur in the afternoon, grab lunch at a boulangerie, do the laundry and I need to get some anti-biotics, so I go in search of a doctor! Well what a drama, I have some addresses, but they are not exactly well ...
