We let the girls sleep in and then broke the news that we were going to have a quiet day in the hostel because it was raining and that they had to do a few hours of homework. Looking at the screen in the hostel, you could see that it was snowing heavily on the mountains.
By afternoon, the rain had turned to drizzle, so we ...
... he or she should want one. An education opens doors, and if an education is based around teaching kids how to see problems and see solutions, the innovatie, culturally correct solutions will come, and the outcomes will trump any that foreign projects can try to achieve.
I am also continuing to learn French, both in class and at home. My French class is getting better, and I am slowly learning how to string sentences together. I spent the last few days in ...
... German but I keep saying "Danka" and they seem to answer just fine. Though I have been hearing a lot of "Merci" which is French. And "Chao" which is Italian. Long story short....there is no Swiss language.
There seems to be a lot of Swiss pride. There flags are up everywhere and also they have city flags up too. Ex: the city of Bern has a bear on its flag and it looks pretty cool. I wish I bought a little miniature flag but forgot.
... interview is what got me abroad six years ago. Opting to ditch Engineering fueled all kinds of passion and created room in my life for language. Spring Break '08 convinced me to stay at UK and thus, find myself here. Now I'm presented with a whole new set of thoughts. I have faith that this trip -- this being away from normalcy for an extended period of time -- will give me direction. Some people pray the rosary ...
Bern, Bern, Switzerland spassvogel... on Sunday) to celebrate my farewell. I was actually leaving Saturday, but not everyone was going to be available on Friday night to say goodbye, so Wednesday was our only chance. They took me to a fish restaurant overlooking the lake, where we had a traditional fish dish from the area, mine was with mushrooms and potatoes and it was damn tasty! They didnt have and sauser to drink though, as their grapes werent quite ready yet. But dinner was lovely, and afterwards we walked ...
Bern, Switzerland lovin_apples... location where Peter and Jaqueline got married. Although they call it one of the smaller lakes, any ammount of water in Switzerland is going to be quite large! there are 3 major lakes in the area, all interconnected by canals. The weather was pretty dreary, but the lakes and surroundings were still beautiful, and the old town was bright and colourful with the everpresent window boxes full of flowers, and swiss flags lining the main street. As it was a Sunday most of the ...
Bern, Switzerland lovin_apples... requirements. I knew they required a visa, just didn't realize that they were gonna be such a bunch of pansies about it. So I don't have a clue how I am gonna handle any of this yet, I'll figure it out as I go. On a good note, all the other countries in that area decided they were cool along time ago and don't have any pain-in-the-ass visa requirements, so I figure I will go grace them with more of my money and beer drinking abilities.
Spiez, Switzerland chuckonearth... about it though, and the university has a lunchroom view of the snow-capped Alps- so there's not much to complain about. Is great to see our friends and continue doing the tourist thing in disguise (we blend right in as mute student friends of the French speaking international students we tag along behind). Off for more adventures....
Lausanne, Switzerland alexengel... get to the station and then we get on this train its all stuffy and hot (not enough battery to power the lights and the ac) and then the lights end up going off and on for a while. and then we get to the train and oh, full of people, then u know me my american self refused to give up my passport to these train people that looked so unorganized, and 2 other canadian people in my comparetment refused as well, so we get to sleep at ...
Zurich, Switzerland ivealis... she said in her accented English. He had been telling her how great it was that the Americans had finally been put in their place. She looked at us and said, "He's one of those, you know...", and she made a weak Nazi salute there in the street, as if to say he was an old school follower of that regime. Pretty scary to think that there are people still like that out there. In Zermatt, I overheard a British bartender making comments that our government was being too militant, too ...
