A day on and in the South China Sea

Since I was here ten years ago I can only comment of two big changes I have seen so far, the first being the absence of the beautiful flowing white dress worn by the young women. It is called the ao dai. It has slits on each side to the waist and is worn over silk pants. It must have been a school uniform then as it was everywhere, young girls on bicycles wearing it were a memory that ...

... with cinnamon ice cream, chocolate brownies with Vanilla ice cream. To top this off we have fireworks on the beach to celebrate Sabine's birthday (or that is what I told Sabine). It is actually for the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Nha Trang from the French/Americans during the Vietnam war. The fireworks last for 10 mins and are very impressive. After supper we go to the four poster pool beds to chill and enjoy some more ...

... to the main road and wandered back to the hotel. We had a quick relax in the room while we charged a few items and also wrote some blog etc. then we headed up to the tenth floor for a quick relax. On the 10th floor was a small swimming with a handful of loungers and also a small bar with billiard table. We both grabbed a towel and headed straight for the pool. It was nice to relax with feet dangling in the water and when the temperature got too much we could jump in for a quick cool ...

    Goodbye beard, hello night bus

Ian appeared from the bathroom this morning clean shaven, having used my only remaining sharp leg razor - the beard was no more! Today was spent lazing at the rooftop pool before departing on the 7.45pm Sinh Tourist Night Bus. Much the same as the night bus before but this time we were on the bottom row as opposed to the top so felt a bit safer when riding the bumps. We actually slept for around 50% of the journey despite their being two babies on board. ...

    Sleeping Bus Trip and Russians

A travel blog entry by budabbottblog on Jan 26, 2015

... flights from Russia to Vietnam have been abruptly canceled. People must buy tickets home that cost twice as much as planned. Construction is likely to halt soon. I am told there are comparatively fewer Russians here now than just a few weeks ago. Bars and clubs seem empty and I expect many will be closing. Lots of Russian young men and women that invested in the booming Vietnam economy have no place to go. No jobs here and no jobs back in the new EEEA. Not sure if there ...
