    ... seedy seaside town of Altea, and find the Hotel Altaya, a very adequate, old-fashioned place right on the front. It reminds Guy of the sort of Brighton hotels there were around in the sixties! He swims in the sea while Hilli showers and rests before we climb up into the old town for some delicious tapas and beer, much needed! Hilli manages to lose the way walking back, so we walk at least three miles... excellent ...

    ... but the train was full and only 1st class seats available which cost us €60 each - ouch! To add insult to injury our seats - 8a and 8b - we're actually in separate coaches, so we couldn't sit together until much later in the journey when the woman next to me got off the train.     ... time via the road that kept us close to the beachfront, which took a bit longer but allowed us to take in the sights. It was pretty windy on the beach so we were all gently exfoliated by the fine, wind-blown sand in a pleasant way; the wind keeping us a bit cooler in the blazing heat.     ... range into the next, with the last of the snow still clinging to the highest peaks. These dramatic ranges were broken from time to time by large plains and arid stretches of landscape. We still marvelled at the white washed villages and the old forts that sit atop so many of the hills. We were so pleased that we had the freedom of a vehicle which enabled us to enjoy it.
