... has the upper hand.
Ok, now onto our Amalfi adventure. The first night in Sorrento we, with the help of Trip Advisor, found a kebab restaurant in town to have dinner. After having pasta and pizza every day for 12 days I was ready for something different. We happend to be sat at the same small table as a couple of other Americans and we swapped travel stories over dinner. They shared that they had just spent the day in a rented boat touring around the coast ...
We caught a bus from Sorrento to Amalfi along the coastline with the most beautiful view for a whole hour and a half! Although we all thought we were about to get killed, either in a car accident or from the bus falling off the cliff face, it had the most beautiful views. We spent a few ...
... tomorrow) been pronounced 'doman' or even the word seven 'sette' pronounced 'siette?' we're not in Spain!!! Putting all that side, we were back in the Amalfi Coast and excited about tomorrow (domani, with an 'i') as we were off to Positano!
Although before we started our day-tripping, we did find a lovely pocket of Sorrento (a surprisingly hard thing to do) in the little old Port of Sorrento. We managed to leave the main drag and rather sad excuse for an ...
... to this village and the lady turned out to be some family member on his grandpas side who he evidently looks identical to. The lady then started yelling for another woman "Franca" who was also related. Within 5minutes we were the talk of this small village and people were coming from left right and center and introducing themselves (most being family). When we would walk from 1 house to the next people would come to ...

Luigi had given us a recommendation of a small local restaurant up the hill. It mostly caters to the locals so it is nothing fancy. The food did not disappoint. Steve had a halibut flank and I had ravioli with meat and two cheeses. We shared a salad with lemon, oil, and vinegar. And the wine...ah the wine. It was a perfect ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Grand Hotel la Pace Sant'Agnello
Good but too far from Sorrento
Hotel in Saint Agnello which is a 40min walk from Sorrento, Hotel provides a shuttle bus but not that frequently and at some odd times. At the top of a hill so not a good idea for disabled or elderly.
Food ok but not to a 5 star standard.
Rooms clean and staff fairly friendly.
Make sure you have a room with a pool view as the rooms without haven't got good views at all and some have no windows so very dark. We had to ask to be moved and paid extra. Wouldn't have said this was 5 star more a 4+.
Away from main Sorrento, but a shuttle (every 2 hours or so) is provided. It is possible to walk into town-about 45 min or so. The lobby was beautiful, the breakfast was outstanding-even an omelette bar. The pool was only 4 feet or so at it's deepest and some of the other guests (as well as some of the staff) are a little shall we say less than warm. The room was large and gorgeous with painted tile floors and a big vanity in the bathroom-a rare commodity in Italy.
Great Weekend Break
Just returned from a great long weekend at La Pace. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel is beautiful. Had lovely suite with excellent facilities. 2km from centre of town but courtesy bus service provided. Would go back.
An Excellent Hotel
Spent One week in this hotel in Sept 2002. Had a lovely room at back of hotel. Staff very friendly. Excellent for breakfast and evening meals.
Fab pool. Liked it and Sorrento that much we are going back Sept 2004.
Hotel located approx 500 Mtr from St. Agnello (a nice area) and just about 2 Kl from Sorrento. This was not a problem as there was a courtesy bus from hotel to centre and back several times daily.
I have just spent a most enjoyable long weekend at this hotel, I found the staff to be most helpfull and i rate this hotel to be five star, Who needs a bath when on holiday, Anyway a shower is cleaner, I must say i'm glad i did not cancel my booking after i read some of the coments posted to this site.
Don't honeymoon there!
We spent 10 days there on our honeymoon in July 2003. We paid for sea view (very distant!) and a suite. From the moment we arrived the reception staff could not have been more difficult, they were rude and unhelpful to the point where another guest complained to the manager.
The restaurant staff were superb although the restaurant was a bit stuffy and the food did become a bit monotonous. The location is too far away from the centre and the free bus is very poor. We would not recommend this hotel.
Worst Holiday of my life
It was the worst five star hotel , I have ever stayed in. The staff were extremely ignorant and rude. We had a bracelet stolen from our room and we had to go to the police ourselves, the hotel refused to phone them.
I thought the hotel was great. The staff were friendly, it had a lovely pool area and the food was great. I would have given it all 5 but the rooms weren't great.
Avoid at all costs
spent two weeks here in august 2003 great staff nice hotel but in a no star location sorrento is about great views the views from this hotel are of dereict buildings too far from town
Nice hotel, brand new, helpful staff. However, I don't understand how it rates 5 stars when bathrooms only have showers. A fairly dreadful location, not much on views. You can walk into town at substantial peril, otherwise you'll have to take a outrageously expensive Sorrento taxi.
