Historical Traveler Reviews Grand Hotel la Pace Sant'Agnello
Good but too far from Sorrento
Hotel in Saint Agnello which is a 40min walk from Sorrento, Hotel provides a shuttle bus but not that frequently and at some odd times. At the top of a hill so not a good idea for disabled or elderly.
Food ok but not to a 5 star standard.
Rooms clean and staff fairly friendly.
Make sure you have a room with a pool view as the rooms without haven't got good views at all and some have no windows so very dark. We had to ask to be moved and paid extra. Wouldn't have said this was 5 star more a 4+.
Away from main Sorrento, but a shuttle (every 2 hours or so) is provided. It is possible to walk into town-about 45 min or so. The lobby was beautiful, the breakfast was outstanding-even an omelette bar. The pool was only 4 feet or so at it's deepest and some of the other guests (as well as some of the staff) are a little shall we say less than warm. The room was large and gorgeous with painted tile floors and a big vanity in the bathroom-a rare commodity in Italy.
Great Weekend Break
Just returned from a great long weekend at La Pace. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel is beautiful. Had lovely suite with excellent facilities. 2km from centre of town but courtesy bus service provided. Would go back.
An Excellent Hotel
Spent One week in this hotel in Sept 2002. Had a lovely room at back of hotel. Staff very friendly. Excellent for breakfast and evening meals.
Fab pool. Liked it and Sorrento that much we are going back Sept 2004.
Hotel located approx 500 Mtr from St. Agnello (a nice area) and just about 2 Kl from Sorrento. This was not a problem as there was a courtesy bus from hotel to centre and back several times daily.
I have just spent a most enjoyable long weekend at this hotel, I found the staff to be most helpfull and i rate this hotel to be five star, Who needs a bath when on holiday, Anyway a shower is cleaner, I must say i'm glad i did not cancel my booking after i read some of the coments posted to this site.
Don't honeymoon there!
We spent 10 days there on our honeymoon in July 2003. We paid for sea view (very distant!) and a suite. From the moment we arrived the reception staff could not have been more difficult, they were rude and unhelpful to the point where another guest complained to the manager.
The restaurant staff were superb although the restaurant was a bit stuffy and the food did become a bit monotonous. The location is too far away from the centre and the free bus is very poor. We would not recommend this hotel.
Worst Holiday of my life
It was the worst five star hotel , I have ever stayed in. The staff were extremely ignorant and rude. We had a bracelet stolen from our room and we had to go to the police ourselves, the hotel refused to phone them.
I thought the hotel was great. The staff were friendly, it had a lovely pool area and the food was great. I would have given it all 5 but the rooms weren't great.
Avoid at all costs
spent two weeks here in august 2003 great staff nice hotel but in a no star location sorrento is about great views the views from this hotel are of dereict buildings too far from town
Nice hotel, brand new, helpful staff. However, I don't understand how it rates 5 stars when bathrooms only have showers. A fairly dreadful location, not much on views. You can walk into town at substantial peril, otherwise you'll have to take a outrageously expensive Sorrento taxi.

... finally get the bill (after 2 shots of limoncello) which was not cheap, but there was no doubt that we had filled ourselves (and spent over 2 hours inside). We walked home feeling painfully full, and ran into the French Canadians hanging out with 4 good looking French boys in the social area. I joined them for a little while, sipping on vodka and OJ, but soon retired to bed, struggling with the language barrier at the table which only the girls and one of the boys attempted to ...
... the blue but not cavernous, and the white grotto, apparently an enigma of Virgin Mary made naturally of stalactites, and stallecmites. The sun was now beaming down on us, very warm and relaxing, and a quiet nap was had by most on the tour before another quick dip off the edge and retuning to land. A beautiful day was capped off by a yummy dinner a bit up the cliff side before retiring, exhausted but ...
Leave Sorrento on Friday and head to Monterroso - last town at Cinque Terre. Sounds like might not have wifi in hotel and limited availability of it or internet in that town. Head to Milan on Wed 14th when should be back to 'normal'. Better do it in next day if need to make contact and get any info from ...
... One was the Amalfi coast, the other was the Blue Grotto.
The Amalfi trail held little appeal. I mean, one can only stand so many vertical surfaces and hairpin turns and we had seen enough of those, by accident or otherwise. So the Blue Grotto it was, only this time we would organize it ourselves and take the boat ride completely around the island. It was a good choice.
As we set out for the harbor again Malcolm had an attack of panic because ...
... I got to skype with him today, and it worked! I got to see my friend Billy too! Hey Billy! I know you are probably reading this and Keith isn't, maybe I should give him a little more credit.
Well, I am heading out to read my book. I have posted some pics from today.
I will have to say - this has been a pretty good father's day. The sweetness of doing nothing! If anyone knows me well, it is kind of hard for me to do nothing!
