Historical Traveler Reviews Grand Hotel la Pace Sant'Agnello

Good but too far from Sorrento

      from

Hotel in Saint Agnello which is a 40min walk from Sorrento, Hotel provides a shuttle bus but not that frequently and at some odd times. At the top of a hill so not a good idea for disabled or elderly.

Food ok but not to a 5 star standard.

Rooms clean and staff fairly friendly.

Make sure you have a room with a pool view as the rooms without haven't got good views at all and some have no windows so very dark. We had to ask to be moved and paid extra. Wouldn't have said this was 5 star more a 4+.

      Very Fancy

      from

Away from main Sorrento, but a shuttle (every 2 hours or so) is provided. It is possible to walk into town-about 45 min or so. The lobby was beautiful, the breakfast was outstanding-even an omelette bar. The pool was only 4 feet or so at it's deepest and some of the other guests (as well as some of the staff) are a little shall we say less than warm. The room was large and gorgeous with painted tile floors and a big vanity in the bathroom-a rare commodity in Italy.

      Great Weekend Break

      from

Just returned from a great long weekend at La Pace. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel is beautiful. Had lovely suite with excellent facilities. 2km from centre of town but courtesy bus service provided. Would go back.

      An Excellent Hotel

      from

Spent One week in this hotel in Sept 2002. Had a lovely room at back of hotel. Staff very friendly. Excellent for breakfast and evening meals.

Fab pool. Liked it and Sorrento that much we are going back Sept 2004.

Hotel located approx 500 Mtr from St. Agnello (a nice area) and just about 2 Kl from Sorrento. This was not a problem as there was a courtesy bus from hotel to centre and back several times daily.

      First rate

      from

I have just spent a most enjoyable long weekend at this hotel, I found the staff to be most helpfull and i rate this hotel to be five star, Who needs a bath when on holiday, Anyway a shower is cleaner, I must say i'm glad i did not cancel my booking after i read some of the coments posted to this site.

      Don't honeymoon there!

      from

We spent 10 days there on our honeymoon in July 2003. We paid for sea view (very distant!) and a suite. From the moment we arrived the reception staff could not have been more difficult, they were rude and unhelpful to the point where another guest complained to the manager.

The restaurant staff were superb although the restaurant was a bit stuffy and the food did become a bit monotonous. The location is too far away from the centre and the free bus is very poor. We would not recommend this hotel.

      Worst Holiday of my life

      from

It was the worst five star hotel , I have ever stayed in. The staff were extremely ignorant and rude. We had a bracelet stolen from our room and we had to go to the police ourselves, the hotel refused to phone them.

      Excellent

      from

I thought the hotel was great. The staff were friendly, it had a lovely pool area and the food was great. I would have given it all 5 but the rooms weren't great.

      Avoid at all costs

      from

spent two weeks here in august 2003 great staff nice hotel but in a no star location sorrento is about great views the views from this hotel are of dereict buildings too far from town

      Grand? Hotel

      from

Nice hotel, brand new, helpful staff. However, I don't understand how it rates 5 stars when bathrooms only have showers. A fairly dreadful location, not much on views. You can walk into town at substantial peril, otherwise you'll have to take a outrageously expensive Sorrento taxi.

For those of you who are friends with me on Facebook, you may have noticed the pictures I've been uploading on a somewhat weekly basis. You’ll see the views, the people, maybe a selfie here and there, but most importantly, take note of the entire photo album I have dedicated solely to the Italian food I’ve been enjoying during my travels. The food here is just that delicious. It’s not to make you jealous (well, maybe a little), but the more important ...

... peek at Villa San Michele. Headed over that way and stopped in at a glass shop to take pictures for Lauren (she gave me her camera so she wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing it while they were swimming). Didn't actually make it into the Villa (I was being a bit miserly and low on cash - I had to pay for three of us for everything this day and the ferry rides weren't cheap either!) but there was a nice walk right below it with pretty much the same ...

Last night we had dinner here at the hostel. While Channing was napping I walked up to the little town we are in and happened upon this very small deli/supermarket. They had fresh fruit, vegetables, proschuitto, bread, salami, etc. etc. I asked the lady if she could make me a sandwich and of course she did not speak any English so I had to speak Italian. I managed ...

... we stopped to visit the Blue Grotto and were lucky enough that the tide was low enough to go inside, although we still had to lay down flat in the row boat to get inside. Once in there though we faced pitch black, before our rower swung the boat back toward the entry, and BAM! The most stunning, azure, turquoise, aqua, brilliant shade of blue radiated from below. Gorgeous! Then, we were even luckier when a bit of gentle pleading from Kyle granted us permission ...
