Sorrento and Capri

A travel blog entry by judyann

11 September 2007 - Tuesday (Martedi) - Day 10 - Sorrento / Capri In the morning we took the bus from Sorrento to a ferry that crossed the Bay of Naples to the island of Capri. It was our first rainy day, and our trip to the Blue Grotto was weather permitting. A smaller ferry took our group out to the grotto, where 3-4 at a time would board a small …

Sorrento and Capri, the Isle of Dreams

A travel blog entry by lizziebeasley

After disembarking your cruise in Athens, there is time to explore the markets of the Plaka before transferring to the airport for the short flight to Italy. On arrival, drive around the Bay of Naples to the beautiful cliff-top resort of Sorrento. Savour the stunning views over the Gulf of Naples. In the morning, cruise to the magical island of …

And then… finally I reach Cava di Tirreni, which not only has a large train station still in use on Christmas, but also a beautiful old city, with open restaurants and even a gelateria! Definitely tonight is going to have a much happier ending than last night. I find a beautiful garden to strum in, with the mountains peeking from behind the trees, and then enjoy a classy stroll down a the cobblestone pedestrian ...

... Nocera Superiore has a wide main boulevard, but a much emptier feel than its sister town. But it does have an interesting round church that looks very ancient—and yes, Nocera Superiore does trace its history back to Roman times… also have the remnants of an ancient acqueduct…

But, back to the present, I'm a bit concerned to find a semi abandoned train station ...

Day 063: 2 hours, 4.0 kms

Nocera Inferiore—despite its unpretentious name is a large town and a small railroad hub: hear the railway up to Avellino and Benevento, the two other provinces of this region, heads off. I pause in a cramped little plaza near the station with a nice view of the ...

Good but too far from Sorrento

    from anonymous

Hotel in Saint Agnello which is a 40min walk from Sorrento, Hotel provides a shuttle bus but not that frequently and at some odd times. At the top of a hill so not a good idea for disabled or elderly.

Food ok but not to a 5 star standard.

Rooms clean and staff fairly friendly.

Make sure you have a room with a pool view as the rooms without haven't got good views at all and some have no windows so very dark. We had to ask to be moved and paid extra. Wouldn't have said this was 5 star more a 4+.

    Very Fancy

    from anonymous

Away from main Sorrento, but a shuttle (every 2 hours or so) is provided. It is possible to walk into town-about 45 min or so. The lobby was beautiful, the breakfast was outstanding-even an omelette bar. The pool was only 4 feet or so at it's deepest and some of the other guests (as well as some of the staff) are a little shall we say less than warm. The room was large and gorgeous with painted tile floors and a big vanity in the bathroom-a rare commodity in Italy.

    Great Weekend Break

    from anonymous

Just returned from a great long weekend at La Pace. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel is beautiful. Had lovely suite with excellent facilities. 2km from centre of town but courtesy bus service provided. Would go back.

    An Excellent Hotel

    from anonymous

Spent One week in this hotel in Sept 2002. Had a lovely room at back of hotel. Staff very friendly. Excellent for breakfast and evening meals.

Fab pool. Liked it and Sorrento that much we are going back Sept 2004.

Hotel located approx 500 Mtr from St. Agnello (a nice area) and just about 2 Kl from Sorrento. This was not a problem as there was a courtesy bus from hotel to centre and back several times daily.

    First rate

    from anonymous

I have just spent a most enjoyable long weekend at this hotel, I found the staff to be most helpfull and i rate this hotel to be five star, Who needs a bath when on holiday, Anyway a shower is cleaner, I must say i'm glad i did not cancel my booking after i read some of the coments posted to this site.

    Don't honeymoon there!

    from anonymous

We spent 10 days there on our honeymoon in July 2003. We paid for sea view (very distant!) and a suite. From the moment we arrived the reception staff could not have been more difficult, they were rude and unhelpful to the point where another guest complained to the manager.

The restaurant staff were superb although the restaurant was a bit stuffy and the food did become a bit monotonous. The location is too far away from the centre and the free bus is very poor. We would not recommend this hotel.

    Worst Holiday of my life

    from phayes6

It was the worst five star hotel , I have ever stayed in. The staff were extremely ignorant and rude. We had a bracelet stolen from our room and we had to go to the police ourselves, the hotel refused to phone them.

    Excellent

    from anonymous

I thought the hotel was great. The staff were friendly, it had a lovely pool area and the food was great. I would have given it all 5 but the rooms weren't great.

    Avoid at all costs

    from anonymous

spent two weeks here in august 2003 great staff nice hotel but in a no star location sorrento is about great views the views from this hotel are of dereict buildings too far from town

    Grand? Hotel

    from tintable

Nice hotel, brand new, helpful staff. However, I don't understand how it rates 5 stars when bathrooms only have showers. A fairly dreadful location, not much on views. You can walk into town at substantial peril, otherwise you'll have to take a outrageously expensive Sorrento taxi.
