... my mum worked for 6 months when she was a little older than me. We went back to their house for a beautiful cooked lunch followed by dessert of cherries and cream! Afterwards Dario and Claudia took us up to our family house in the mountains- the equivalent of a Bach in NZ 'Cansume'. It was just as I remembered it- so beautiful. We walked around for a while and the view is just incredible! Ilaria picked us up in the afternoon and we went ...

... got to Poschiavo - the town where Char's family is from, Dario took us for a walk around the town. Here we visited different places and Char was introduced to different people around town who all knew who she was haha. We visited the church where we were told a really cool story. Across the square from the church, there is a gated place which holds shelves of skulls. We were told that hundreds of years ago, people who had died in the town were buried ...

Someone was about to start smoking but no guesses as to who pointed out the "no smoking" sign so he put his smokes away (thank goodness). So another 2.5 hours and we were in Tirano. Checked in and had dinner of beef medallions (200gm steak) and mushrooms before our train ride to St Moritz tomorrow. Walking to dinner came across the most unlikely shop!! ...

... These trains run between St Moritz and the Italian town of Tirano where I stayed on last years winter trip.

Onwards and upwards to the summit of the pass. The summit of Bernina is at 2330m above sea level and is in my opinion one of the best view points in the whole of the Alps. As per usual I parked my bike up on the rock and took several photos of it with the mountains as backdrop.

From here its a grand hi speed road down the pass with magical twists ...

... surprised with this? Giulianis married Scardiglis and before this they married Crameri's, all traced back to Poschiavo. Every second person living or dead here is called Giuliani or Crameri! In fact the chef/owners wife is a Crameri!......”le sigh”. I feel like I'm a spectator in a very weird wonderland. Ken however is delighted as they have welcomed him as a “Pushlav”(the term used for locals to the area). ...
