... Montreux Jazz festival is on so it was quite packed. We saw a few of the touristy things to see, like the Freddy Mercury statue and the Grand Swiss Hotel where Smoke on the Water was written and recorded. We then took a cog train up the alps to Rochers-de-Naye. It is not the highest train in Switzerland to do but it was the closest to where we were staying. It took an hour to wind around ...

... walking area that was already lit for Christmas. It was extremely cold (25 degrees) so we soon headed back to the Hostel. Friday morning I enjoyed the large breakfast buffet in the hostel with many other youth from all over the world. I ended up sitting across from an American Navy officer stationed in the south of Spain that was currently on Thanksgiving break for the weekend and had picked Geneva to travel to also. He was extremely kind and shared with me ...

... in the 14th century! The English apparently differed from the Swiss more formal and symmetrical style, as it is more natural and the paths wind around the trees and features.  There is a glorious fountain in the middle called 'The four seasons'. As in Vevey and Montreux, the gardens are extremely well kept and the last flush of autumn roses was lovely.  The lawns are manicured and weed free, and various areas were cordoned off, apparently to let them ...
