Our slumber party in the bed and breakfast was fun! Alaina and I chatted and giggled at the guys snoring harmoniously before passing out. Wil's alarm went off at 0800 for us to get moving. We ate a small breakfast offered by the wife of the house with pastries, cereal, yogurt and meat. We took a cab to the train station and we're off to Cinque Terre! The train dropped us off in La Spezia and we took a local train up the coastline into the villages. We're loving Italy! We've come from the big ...
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy 2knightsabroadIt was a good nights sleep and it's a cold morning. Alaina bundles up and goes down to the grocery for eggs, cheese, yogurt, granola and milk then makes us a wonderful breakfast. She's such a good cook! After breakfast we jump the train north to the next village, Monterosso. This is the main beach village and does have some cars. We grab some coffee, hot chocolate and tea and sit out by the sea. Although it was cold the sun was out full blast and kept us semi-warm. We walked through the town ...
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy 2knightsabroadSo we rolled out of Bed pretty late and Erin was pretty puffy eyed... And we pretty much got kicked out of our room in Monterroso and tried to catch the water ferry over to Vernazza but it was to choppy so we headed to the train station and then checked into our new room and headed to the beach! We spent the day at the beach with our newly purchased umbrella and drank some beer! We went back to our room and got reshened up before heading out to a wonderful dinner where we sat above the see an...

What shouldn't we miss while we are here?
Monterosso, Italian Riviera, Italy frdrick... the Med before taking us inland and through the olive groves.
On arrival at Portofino we were greeted with a similar village to those in Cinque Terre but not quite as quaint. Not sure what all the fuss is about...Santa Margherita wins our vote.
Back at Scooby for lunch of bbq chicken wraps and biscotti for dessert, then onto the autopista to lovely Lucca.
... town stretching among the hills to frame the see... not too bad to wake up to if you ask me! Before exploring the other cities we walked through the streets of Manarola down to the marina. Boats lined the streets as they are docked for the fall and winter. It made me think of how lively this place must be during the summer.
A little bit of a drizzle in the morning but the rest of the day turned out nice, even a little sunshine. We walked Via dell'Amore from Manarola to ...
Tuscan Riviera Portovenere
Had seen it on Getaway and looked very pretty.. Found a hotel with sea views and have spent 2 nights here resting , climbing around local castles… eating sleeping and watching the boats go in and out… not much English here but we are not hungry or thirsty so all going well….
Tomorrow we are off to the South of France.. 3 nights planned in Nice.. Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…
... the town with the best beach. When we got there, however, we found that most of the beach was private and that you had to buy a chair and umbrella to use it. Being tired of having to pay for everything, we decided to go down to the more crowded area of the beach that was free. This part of the beach though was very rocky. Actually, it was all rocks, no sand. But oh well, we are freaking in Italy!
We settled down and took turns going to the water. Jen ...
... off the cement walkway into the water, over and over and over. They never tired of it, and they were so little too! Sometimes a bigger kid would jump in and do a fancy flip or kick or dive, and then one of the little guys would try it too.
After we tired of this we came back to the room, showered and found a nice little restaurant for dinner. I would say it’s incredibly romantic, but the people ...
