Left Tumut...Thru Sydney...Into the Blue Mountains

So, it's been a little while since I've written again. On Friday, my part of the job here was finished. So Saturday, Jacqui and I took off driving North and East, then back West. I had gotten to trade in my Toyota Corolla rental car when I took my coworker to the airport on Monday. Now I'm driving a Ford Fairlane Ghia. It's monstrous compared to the Corolla. And it's got a V8 and rear wheel drive. So its a lot more fun to drive too. If I turn off the cruise control, it'll easily smoke the rea...

A very tedious travel day today. Up early and drive to Melbourne International airport. Checked in at 10am to be told the flight was delayed by 2 hours. Had hours hanging around the airport, with not much to do. Finally took off at 2pm but luckily made up some time with very strong tailwinds. Landed in Sydney at 3pm but then had to wait ages for our bags and then the hire car. When we left Melbourne it was cold, wet and very windy. When we arrived in Sydney it was...

Blue-ish Mountains

So, another expedition out of Sydney, this time to the blue mountains. We hired a car gathered our crew (Sarah & Natalie) and set off amidst the Friday night rush hour traffic, which mostly involved sitting in traffic jams until we left the suburbs of Sydney. We reached our destination of Katoomba in farely reasonable time considering the traffic. We checked in and were helped by our over-friendly desk clerk who would later show us some sketches he had done of his wifes naked girlfriends ...

... Point, which has good views of The Three Sisters rocks, which are three stalagmite like formations which have been formed by the end of a cliff eroding and falling away, leaving these three peaks.

I took a walk along the cliff side past these three, and down a long and steep path, to walk half way along the side of the cliff faces, back underneath The Three Sisters, and to the Katoomba Falls. There are several ...

Jenolan Caves - Adventure Caving

... could not carry it (they didnt have the pleasure of trails, abseiling or steps, the first explorers entered plug hole down a fallen tree). So today we could see piles of dead crystal rock near the entrance, the explorers thought it was alive and would grow back immediately. They were right about one thing, it IS alive, but takes 100 years to grow 1cm and in some cases doesnt grow back at all. Today at the caves, conservation is at the forefront, and the tourist ...

Tales of Exploration and Rejection

... as it was stairway after buttocks-burning stairway, winding our way back to the top of the escarpment. It was brutal... yet still beautiful: we climbed alongside a waterfall and had plenty of stunning views to stop and appreciate (it had nothing at all to do with needing to catch our breath!!) When we at last reached the final step, glistening with perspiration and glowing red like Rudolph's nose, we found a most conveniently located café. We ...

Was fuer ein Tag! Am Samstag sind wir morgens schnell ein paar Sachen einkaufen gegangen, und dann wieder zum Hauptaussichtspunkt, um nocheinmal Seilbahn zu fahren. Diesmal ...

... but they were never turned back. The views from there were spectacular. Just standing there had this calming effect and put you in a good mood. This was, however, our downfall. We were in such a good mood and eager to explore that we ended up doing the Three Sisters bush walk. Don't get us wrong, we thoroughly enjoyed the bush walk, it was the 900 stairs of the Giant staircase we were not so enamored with. However, we did it and live to tell ...
