After a less than pleasant night, John had a late breakfast and we checked out. Apart from the food episode it was a great place to stay and we would recommend the Grand Imperiale Hotel as a good place to base yourself to see Lake Como (but don't eat at Cafe Bellini - a couple of doors down!) ... be, Piola. After walking in circles for an hour trying to find our hostel, we realized the street signs were etched into the sides of the buildings (they are VERY hard to make out). ... in sustaining the environment. Despite this Lecco is still the main centre for steel wire drawing in Italy. I wanted Bev to see this city as well, so we made this our starting point for the Italian leg of our trip. We stayed in an old style hotel right on the banks of Lake Lecco. After a short drive around the city we took a stroll along the waterfront and found a small Pizzeria where we had some dinner.

So, after a 3+ hour train ride yesterday, we arrived in Milan. We even took an extra train which saved us about 5 blocks of walking but cost us about 40 minutes in terms of waiting and riding said train. It would have been faster to walk. Oh well, the things you discover once you acquire a decent map.

Nora has been excellent travelling on trains thus far. She enjoys smiling at all the new people, staring out the window and watching the world ...
